Anyone have any good experiences with side loading water bottle cages?

I need one, due to the compact triangle on my frame. My concern is that they might not hold bottles securely though. Have any worked well for you?

Need a good side access water bottle cage...

I can't believe that I am asking a question about a water bottle cage, but I will want to use one during the upcoming 12 hour Temecula race to hold my electrolyte drink.

The shock of my bike (Pivot Mach 5) does not allow for a conventional water bottle cage - pulling a bottle straight out is too tight, so I was considering using a side access cage. I have seen a few advertised (Bontrager, Arundel, Specialized), but I do not know if one works better than another. I am not that worried about weight (they are all pretty light) - I am more concerned with something that will hold the bottle securely through the rough stuff, but still allow me to grab it easily while riding.

My guess is that any will work OK, but if anyone here has had a good experience with one in particular that would at least point me in the right direction.

I can relate. My frame (X-5) has a set of bottle mounts slung below the down tube, directly behind the front tire and all the nastiness it kicks up. Brilliant!

Can't speak to the side-access cage design, but for Vision Quest I ran a bottle on my seat post using threaded clamps and a standard cage. Worked like a charm.

If you're not going to drop your seat or spend any time off the back, it's a decent option.

Same issue with my 575. Tried the nashbar brand side entry cage and it sucked, currently using a Crank bros Claw bottle cage (out of production). But if you have the clearance you could try a topeak x-15 and the bottle cage of your choice.

I have this Elite bottle cage on my Rocky Mountain Element. The problem I have is that my frame is a small(16.5") and there is very little room for a regular bottle cage without it hitting the rear shock. It's not the best cause the bottle doesn't seem to fit snug, but it doesn't fall out.

    Specialized makes a nice one.

Have you tried a standard King cage yet? I thought I would have to resort to a side loading cage on my medium Flux - but the King has enough lateral give for me to squeeze in a large bottle.

dubjay - Yeah, Ihave a King SS one right now. It is just too tight, even if I try to take the bottle out the side.
