    another quick update.

Was able to get out and ride on Sunday at the loop. Didn't ride the whole way with JSD and gigerrider, but was nice to chat with them here and there.

my wife and i met with the oncologist and the genetic counselor on friday. the genetic counselor stated that my wife had a mutated gene. we're not sure which of her parents carry the gene and at this point it doesn't matter because her brother and sister will get tested as well. so what does that mean? it means that she is at a much higher risk of getting cancer again. not only breast cancer, but ovarian cancer as well (if her brother has the mutated gene, he'll be at a higher risk of prostate and skin cancer). she'll be starting chemo in about 3 weeks when she's off for the summer. we've (she's) made the decision to remove both breast after she's done with chemo. we're also going to talk to the dr. about removing the ovaries as it will trigger early menopause which is a different can of worms.

i know i haven't updated everybody in a while so here goes.

i did a short ride on the loop today on the ss. my climbing is getting better on the ss, but still needs work.... oh wait you guys didn't want to hear about that.

a few days before we were to go in for her first chemo session, we were presented with some more shocking news. well nothing crazy. just turns out that i have to give her injections for 5 days after every treatment to help boost her white blood cell count. i get to play doctor without any of the fun.;)

on 5/31 chinh went in for her first chemo treatment. she was nervous, but tried not to show it. we spent a few hours at the hospital for her treatment and went to pick up the kids at the in laws. she was a bit nauseous that night, but the meds took care of that. the side effects only lasted for a few days. mostly she had issues with constantly having the metallic taste in her mouth. all in all she's been doing good.

we'll be going back in for second treatment this thursday. she's starting to lose her hair and were expecting most of it to go soon. i know it's really bothering her, but no matter what i say it's not enough to comfort her. we're going visit my sister in the next day or two to have her hair buzzed(we think it'll make the transition easier). this is going to be a tough few days emotionally for her.

i'll update you all again soon.

    Courage

I went through this with my wife eleven years ago and the courage shown by our wives in dealing with this is incredible..Imagine psyching yourself up to go get Chemo(poison) treatments...Telling yourself you will be alright when you don't really know the outcome...I am sending prayers for healing to you and your wife and family..There are also a lot of resources here in SoCal for wellness and dealing with all the issues that accompany treatments..

Don't hesitate to find answers to your questions..My wife also shaved her head early so as to avoid the "losing of her hair" and she was incredibly beautiful with a shaved head..I still have a picture of her as a reminder..Best of luck and May God Bless...

bummer to hear that. my sister just went though chemo a few months ago and i really believe everyone's support helped her through the whole thing.

i will pray for your family.

this might be a little late, but my sister used something called penguin cold caps to keep her hair.

hey all, it's been a while since i've updated everybody. we're coming towards the end of her chemo. 2 more sessions to go. going in every friday has become so "normal" that it's going to be weird not going in any more. we still need to meet with the radiation oncologist to see if radiation treatment is necessary. our current oncologist doesn't think it is, but it's not his call. because of the genetic mutation, we're going try and start scheduling her post chemo surgeries. she'll be having a double mastectomy (breast removal) and will start the beginning phases of reconstruction. she'll also need to schedule an oophorectomy (removal of the ovaries). we still have a bit of ways to go, but overall everything has been going pretty smooth. the past few weeks she has been more tired than normal, but still doing well.

more updates to follow. thanks for the continued prayers and support.

forgot to mention that we recently moved out to fontucky to be closer to her parents and her work. 4 minutes to her parents house and 10 minutes to work. as for me i tacked on an additional 20 miles each way for my commute for a total of 50 miles each way.
