Anyone ridden the Downhill trail there lately? I want to ride it tomorrow but I'm concerned it is overgrown and unrideable. Anyone ridden there lately or thave any input?
GMR Conditions...Monroe Truck Trail If you're gonna drop in from GMR at the top of Monroe Truck trail its a fun ride. This trail is rutted and rough, still fun, just be on yout toes.its not like it has ben the past couple of years, these trails change often cause of rainfall, and its hit this area hard a couple times this last wet season.
Were heading up the right side tomorrow. I'm not sure which "downhill" trail your talking about though. Let me know how it is if you hit left side.
Today, and last week us roadies climbed GMR (among other things) and noticed a couple shuttle vehicles. Besides the fact I can't fathom shuttling MTT, I heard rumors of other trails out there leading "downhill". Maybe halfway up there's a turnout on the east side, and a fireroad on the west side, and there was a shuttle vehicle stopped there. Someone fill me in on this.... edit: ah, glendora ridge motorway fireroad
How about you ride to the top, and then ride down our trail without stopping or bailing on your 5" or under bike. I'll give you $50 if you make it. If you fall down or stop, you owe me $50. I'll still even let you brag that your the only guy who's actually on a MTB ride. Let me know if you need directions.
Monroe Truck trail used to be a great out and back cross country ride-until the road (GMR) was opened again. Since then there have been illegal jumps, stunts, and trails (you know the ridge route)installed by shuttlers or other bikers-no hiker would take the route. Watch what happens... It just goes to show that trails and access are ephemeral and they may not be there next year-or next week. Monroe Truck Trail was and is a Forest Service road and it has been plowed under(graded) in the not so far past, from the yellow gate to the top.Yes, the rocky creek first mile of trail has been graded at least twice in the last 20 years Enjoy it while it lasts.
You talking to me? I don't care what you do. I don't care if you make $50 Do what you want to do. Shuttle anything that a road comes even remotely close to a road. Hell, carve illegal trails down the ridges of Glendora canyon and enjoy them for the few years you have them. Those illegal trails/and the abuse of the legal trails will help close more of the forest and Debbie Downier will have no where to ride except overcrowded OC canyons. Enjoy....
Wow!!! According to the Forest Service Lower MTT is no longer a fireroad. They have abandoned it. Last I heard they were looking into making it a trail. That being said the first 3 miles or so have been plowed. I think this might be for access to the bees, but the plowing extends past the last set of bee hives. The ridge cut-off that Rossage is talking about was there before the road was opened. It may be a left over fire cut from the big fire in 2004 or 05 (?). The biggest problem I see with the shuttling on the weekends is the increase in high(er) speed traffic exactly when there are more hikers. There are plenty of blind corners and chances for conflict. Just be careful. Make sure you can see the distance it will take you to stop. MTT is a great trail that is definitely seeing more use. One of the positive consequences of the increased usage, is that it stay a bit more open without having to haul up the tools. Great riding.
The Forest Service may have plowed the top few miles to the bee hives but what I said was that the Forest service, in the past has run a grader up from GMR, totally turning Monroe Truck trail, from GMR, into a fireroad passable by a forest service Quint which by all accounts and measures is a pretty ****ing big fire truck. The ridge route has only been around since(2003) and is not recognized by the Forest service as an official trail. It does no exist on historic maps either Debbie downer needs a bong hit-later
I'm hoping and the forest service has indicated that they won't be plowing the whole thing as a fire road any longer. Thats what I've been told. I'm now gonna go pedal my ever fattening butt up and then turn around for one nice flowy trail.
Yeah. Its a bit overgrown. Nothing terrible though. Bring your lightest shin guards and everything is fine. I rode today w/o and it was somewhat uncomfortable.
Glendora Ridge Motorway runs east and west across from Glendora to Azusa, from GMR to a steep descent to a gate at the top of a surface street in Azusa, from the trailhead you saw of GMR its about maybe 5 miles? And, right towards the end is the top of the Garcia trail.
