I'm ready to sit down with my Garmin but I would prefer if about 20 of you that have them just come over and explain it to me. I am not all that great at reading directions. Much better hands on. Thanks! I'll look for your cars!

Really easy to set up. Use the Quick Start guide it came with.

On the unit you just need to enter some personal info, body weight, bike weight, ect. You can also adjust the data field to your personal pref

For the computer just load the CD in like any other intallation you would do.

    The Edge is sweet!

My Costco coupon booklet has the Garmin Forerunner 305 for $179.99, is that the same product as the Edge 305?? Just wondering? Erik

Has anyone actually received their rebate yet? I am very weary of those things because I've gotten ripped off many times. I don't trust them darn things!!

Pretty sure you just outed yourself!

I'm curious about durability relative to the way these are being mounted. I'd hate to put an expensive piece like that on my bars where it can get smashed easily in a tip-over. I know they can be stem mounted, which is probably a little better. Anybody tried mounting it on their top tube right behind the steerer? It'd be harder to read while riding, but seems safer.

BTW: Isn't Apple running low on majestic cats to name their OS's after? What's next, OS 10.8 - Calico?

That's what the extra service option is for. :)

Here is the link from Garmin's site:

The only bike I've had an issue with is my Surly/SS. I'll try to take a handlebar shot this Sunday, since I don't think I have one already.

I endo'd and landed on my face.

I finally got around to sending it in I think last week? Got it back last night. Looks brand new!

Thanks Allison. I know you ride more than me (but probably crash less!), so if it survives that much use with a variety of mounts, that makes me feel better. Your pics do underline my concern though: That's $200++ sticking pretty far up and out over the bars compared to a normal computer.

Do you go OTB often? Put your saddle down more on descents :D

I haven't had any other problems with any of mine. Justin I know broke a few mounts, but the unit itself is fine (scratches in a few places, but it works fine).

FWIW, he said that there was a temporary authorization from Garmin on our acct a few days ago, but so far I haven't been charged for the work they did.

I'll be using my unit this weekend. So, hopefully all will be good! Probably just need a battery replacement in my HR strap.

And as someone who has owned both, the Forerunner is not near as nice. Save your hard earned $$.

I've never lost one on a trail. As far as mounting options, stem mounting is best for upside-down protection. On my Bionicon it's fully protected on top of the steerer tube of the dual-crown. As I previously mentioned, mine has cut out a couple of times on rough descents, but the mount itself hasn't been a problem. It's held up pretty well.

I agree, go for the stem mount if room. Might not work on short downhill stems. If you were to crash the top of your stem should be pretty safe rather on the bars.

Yo Allison, was your edge mounted on the stem or handlebars when you went down?
