Just a FYI, due to the abuse of the liberal return policy, Costco only gives you 90 days on electronic items for returns, lifetime on anything else.... including that 55 gal drum of mayo you bought 2 years ago and decided you couldnt quite finish it!!! :p

I have had problems with the software, but the unit itself has been pretty reliable. It's logged about 4400 miles of mountain bike rides in the 18 months since I got it. It has occasionally shut down without warning on rough DH trails, but rarely.

The software problems began after my hard drive crashed back in June. I did have data backups, but lost about two weeks worth of rides (that's nearly 200 miles for me) after I restored it. Now I'm in the habit of exporting my history as a backup, as well as making a straight copy of the Garmin data folder EVERY time I add a workout. A month ago I had another glitch and it had lost my data. I was able to recover it all by copying back the data folder from the day before over the top of the corrupt one, then download the days' ride and everything was fine.

So the caveat is to back up all your Garmin data, frequently and often. Now I also use both the Garmin software and a free program called Sporttracks to store my ride logs.

But the Edge itself has been great. I'm a closet geek, and the data that is returned from it is great. Good for Geotagging ride photos as well....

    Enjoy! :)

If you check the return policy, it lists all the electronic items included in that policy and GPS units are not included.

I just got it yesterday. Between that and an Apple I bought and looking for a new bike and helping my mom and dealing with rebate issues and work and 7 dogs running around the house and a sore throat and stress to the point of valium and...and....what were we talking about??

Wow I never thought of that, will it be hard to use my Garmin on a Mac? I will be leaving the PC racket after thi new year and go to Mac. We bought our kid an ibook and love it. I hope it will work or the Garmin was a waste.

The EDGE works great on MACS. I have a MacBook Pro with Tiger.

You can download Garmin Training Center for Macs from Garmins website for free. Also MotionBase is now campitable with Macs. Works great with Safari. You just have to download some plug ins but its easy.

So hooray for Geoman who pays way more attention to detail than I ever do! The Garmin rebate is for items purchased by 11/30 but you have until Dec. 30th to send it in. So it has to be bought by 11/30 and then you can forget about it until 12/29 when it has to be postmarkedby the 30th. *whew*
