Now that you are familiar with the trails, next time film it again and it will be much better as you will be faster.

I have a good friend, a very experienced mountain biker, who face planted at 5 Oaks and required 3 surgeries to repair a smashed orbital bone. He's had double vision because now his eyes aren't aligned the way they used to be. So don't let peer pressure tell you you don't need a full face. If you have one, why not use it?

I thought Strobe was talking about the ring/cog combo.:?: Nothin' wrong with wearing FF and pads any time.

Nice vid Allan. Good stuff in Aliso and close by for me.

Seems like the top part of Mentally Sensitive was cut out of the vid?, or maybe it's been cleaned up since I rode it a couple moths ago. There were some nasty ruts, a particular drop into a hard left corner and a washed out section with lots of exposure just after a wood fence I didn't see on the vid. Have to hit it again soon.

First part of mentally sensitive was just nasty ruts and loose dry dirt ...so we all had to walked down till it got better...better to be safe than sorry

Mentally Sensitive sucks. We will re-work it if it ever rains again, right Kioti?

The toughest trail in Aliso must be Lynx, right Dave? Knocked my sorry ass out cold and broke your hand. Both on a nothing section of a routine trail. Never had that problem on Car Wreck or 5 -Oaks...yet...

    Knock on wood, buddy!

I'm definitely game for a Mentally Sensitive rework if we get decent rain this year. That trail has a ton of potential to be awesome and IMO the shape it is in right now is unacceptable. Sorry OP for the thread derail. Nothing to see here #-o

I think Lynx has that "Fully Loop Syndrome", let your guard down and it bites ya. (So I've heard about Floop, haven't ridden there, too scared)

And yeah the top part of MS needs some love. We scoped it with Jim over a year ago but never got good rain. Not much fun now, it's more a "just glad I didn't crash" relief feeling after "riding/sliding" it.

Ditto - I avoid the FLOOP out of self preservation.

Way different. The riding is fun and a good place to build skills, but too many people in too small an area. Mandatory planning around peak traffic. Lots of dust and it gets muddy. You know the Santa Ana trails, dft, so I know you're trolling, hehe... Classic mountain biking, up and down, with views, exposure and logistics. I'll take a few motos on my way to the goods where you'll be lucky to see other parties and you can get scared for miles of big-feature and technical descending.

To each his own, eh. The beach has it's flavor; nice but short trails in a great setting.

Nice! We just rode there yesterday and hit some stuff a little over my head, but I cleaned Car Wreck for the first time (only my second trip out there). It felt good - actually easier than I thought it would be.

Going to have to disagree with this one. While Im up to help, ive been riding mentally a bit rescently ad I think its in some of the best shape its been in for a while. But then again I like riding ruts. The flow is there, just have to find it. Car wreck on the other hand, that trail needs some maintenance bad

My friend, Tony G. (you met him Chris on our Aliso ride), broke his neck on Lynx - almost died too.

I, too, am getting too comfortable w Lynx and pinning it every time I ride it; I'm getting faster but the repercussions are gonna be nasty "when" I crash on it ...

That's pretty true for any of the "speed" trails. The Luge has some seriously nasty repercussions for an error or equipment failure in some spots. We all know of people seriously damaged on Rock-It. 5-Oaks has its perils at speed, and then there's that little speed run from Top of the World to the canyon...

So what's my point? The faster you go, the nastier your crashes will be. The more often you ride fast, the more likely you are to make a mistake or experience an untimely breakage of a critical front-end part. So take calculated risks, and check your equipment often. And wear protection. And don't pedal while tipped over in a turn.

    Or, ride like Mo.

    PS:

I have actually fallen more on Meadows than on any other trail, especially before we bermed that sucker. Sidehill slide outs.
