I rode the loop yesterday and i too was disgusted with all the poop on the sidewalk and the trail. Along with the poop there was other things on the trail that really bothered me, like rocks and sticks and glass and trash and dirt and rabbits and squierls and weeds and bushes and overgrowth and drops and jumps and lions and tigers and bears (o my) and twigs and berries and branches and gravel and water and cars and trucks and ghost and ghoblins and werewolves and monsters and mexicans and asians and whites and dogs and more dirt and rocks and sticks and trash and bottles and cans (clap your hands) and wood chips and me. There was alot more but that's all i can remember at this time. On account of all this "poop" on the trail i've given up mtbing i just cant take it anymore!

No way........you saw rabbits and squirrels on the loop? I heard they were only mythical creatures with stories told to little kids to scare them.

I hate getting into this discussion time and time again. Some equestrians are indeed self-entitled asses. However:

Bikers are at the bottom of the yield poll. There's good reason for it, too. Not going to get into why, but it is what it is so deal with it.

The law stipulates that dog feces must be cleaned up because it poses a health risk. This does not apply to horse manure. I do agree that it's gross, but suck it up and deal with it. What are you going to say when you call animal control?

You: "Hi, I just saw a horse poop on a trail."
    Animal Control: "So?"
    You: "It's disgusting?"
    *click*

Lastly, I have to make a statement about trail/road etiquette. As bikers, we complain about hikers and vehicles that are clueless about etiquette. We think that if they were bikers, they would understand and be more accommodating. Have you ever thought about the equestrian's viewpoint? If you were an equestrian, you would understand that the horse is a dangerous, powerful beast. You'd understand that the courtesy of announcing yourself can prevent spooking the rider or horse. You'd understand that maybe zipping past a horse at 20mph on a fire road, though legal, is not very good etiquette. In all honesty, a lot of people out there are d-bags. Equestrians to riders, riders to hikers, hikers to riders, drivers to pedestrians, etc.

Seriously, though, how hard would it be to just use these on public trails?

    http://www.bunbag.com/

I'm sure you could find some version of it for less than $50 bucks. Pricks.

I think we should have a horse poo cleanup day, gather all of it, and then ambush unsuspecting equestrians from the treetops with a barrage of flying shit.

Riding of a horse is animal abuse. Letting them shit all over the trails is abusive to me and my fellow riders. Horses should no longer be rode. It's something from a bygone era and is no longer needed in this part of the world. let me ask you this,
Do you think the animal enjoys being penned up all day?
Do you think the animal enjoys have 200+ pounds a strapped over it's back and then made to do things it doesn't want to do?
How can someone who claims to be an animal lover mistreat an animal so wrongfully.

Horse are wandering animals it's not their nature to be penned up or "broke".
This is so wrong on so many levels, I'll never be convinced it's not animal abuse. I just question why PETA doesn't make this their forefront campaign against animal abuse.

i don't know if i'm quite to that point, mike, but i'm close!

i've always preferred to think of horses as big dogs--fun to hang out with, relaxing to pet, and great to talk to (we probably wouldn't like pets nearly as much if they talked back). and i always picked up after my dogs...

So who's so high on their horse that they need to add their own signage to the loop? Referring to the sign placed before the drop to the golf course (on the right) reminding folks to yield to horses?

I think it might be gone next time I go by...;)

only if you strap a saddle on them, put a bit in their mouth, climb up on their backs, heel them in the gut, nail shoes to their hooves, and make them carry you over uneven terrain for your recreation....you could debate pet ownership forever, but riding a horse is not even close to owning a dog, even if you "forced" this dog to catch a frisbee.
