I was thinking about this but with a piece of galvanized. PVC might be less harsh on the race though. I tried this. It wouldn't budge. I don't want to damage my headset though... Oh, and btw Northshore, the disc mount is just fine.
Zion Here is a picture of my Zion fork. I did a brief amount of urban riding yesterday and had a ton of fun on it. Reminded me of my old 24" cruiser but a little bit bigger. Take note of the old school A'ME triangle grips.... anybody else have them?
warning: blurry crackberry shots follow Ok, here ya go: The frame's at home. I think I might be able to find a picture for you somewhere around here. :-k
those pics are pretty nice for being taken with a camera... rode oaks today on my rigid bike, was fun and a new experience thats for sure...
i always do them with the headset as long as its straight your headset is going to take alot more abuse then moving a fork race the zion forks mught be alittle tight though I've never worked with one. Bike looks good my bad wrist hurts just thinking about it.
I went down to dixieLine. The 1 1/4 PVC seemed a little big in the middle, so I went to the pipe nipples section. I found a 10 incher and a step-down union with ~1 1/8 inch inner diameter and made this bad boy: A couple of whacks on the crown race, and it's on! PS: is it me or does this post sound kinda dirty?
Thanks for the info. Is that fork suspension corrected? My Marin frame is meant for a 140-145mm fork. Also, I've used an old crown on top of the new crown to seat it correctly since I don't have a pipe laying around. If I did, I would use it on Duan when he slows down on his SS. P.S. I think you need to water your lawn?? LOL
it's corrected to 100mm. i got my race slammer for 8 bucks. if i can catch up with him, i'll give him a flogging with mine...
Not good for the bearings to use the headset to press fit a race. Either get a pipe from home depot or find a beat up crescent wrench to just fit over the steer tube and hammer on that.
ride my 4x bike and my 29er they both have zero headset play, they both are the sealed bearing type of headset I could see how pressing on loose bearings could make a bigger deal. I'm not talking about harcore forcing it straight I ment line it up press it as far down as you can and then use the headset to do it I have never had a problem with doing that on a decent headset. You run risks of marring the race using anyting other then brass or pvc the other way, there is alot more force going into that headset everytime you go over a bump or jump you bike as long as you dont force it sideways its fine.
