I've been looking at Jenson and various other sites and have kicked around the idea :-k of running a full rigid on the Marin. I don't want to plunk down a ton of cash so carbon is out of the question. It must be disc compatiable and I like the straight rather than curved look of rigids but I am unsure :?:if either design or material has an advantage over the other. Heck, even if anyone has a used one in black they don't want I will consider it. I'm fully expecting a flame from FooFighter and others for thinking I'm a total psycho for thinking this.

If your going to a full rigid fork, Im wondering what a partially rigid fork is.

Pick up the cheapy Zion from Jenson and give it a shot. The Zion is pretty nice for the price. I thought it felt better than the Surly fork.

I run my Niner rigid and love it. Although I will probably pick up a squish fork at some point to switch back and forth. But when I want squish I grab my FS, I built the SS to be a totally different ride.

True dat. The rigid fork on my bike was a loaner from Niner that they lent me until the new shipment of forks arrived. I loved the steering of the rigid fork, but ultimately I decided that it beat me up too much. When my replacement fork arrived from Niner, I decided not to install it and I got a Reba instead. I have to be honest, it's not as much fun, but it's a hell of a lot less painful over the chunky stuff.

But DavidB, you're a young whippersnapper of a thang. You should definitely go with a rigid fork on your new Air9.

Last time I road a ridged fork on my MTB's was at the Nationals back in '89 at BigBear. All I remember was coming flying down one of the descents, hitting a shyte load of stutter bumps and then having to hop a tree that was across the course AND in the middle of the stutters. Not a fun feeling, either my hands fell a sleep or I had to loosen my grip and my hands would get bounced off the bars.

Now for a nice easy trail ride they would not be so bad or if the trail was pretty smooth.

Zion? I have read a number of reviews that the bracket is not exactly welded correctly and leads to problems.

at this point, any advice offered right now on either side is going to be replied with a "shutup!" but don't take it personally, it just makes my head hurt.

    ](*,)

unless someone has a link to a reba on sale somewhere

I read the same review, but it wasn't consistent. I've read more reviews from peeps who like it than those that don't.

    Zion Rigid

I have the Zion fork from jenson on my SS. I have nothing even close to a complaint. In fact on my maiden voyage at Wood Canyon with the rigid I killed my old time record. I went up cholla, up both extra credits on the ridge fire road, up to top of the world, down meadows, up dripping cave to coyote and out in one hour. I even stopped to talk to one of the guys clearing some brush on the main fire road. Trust me, the Zion is definately worth all $29 bucks.

A 29'er will make it feel like 1/8" of travel vs. zero;)

I would just like to point out that:

    1. You used said "True Dat"
    2. ...and whippersnapper in the same post.
    3. Your shift key is working and you've got the capitalization skillz to pay the bills.
