Being 16 and not having my license sucks. Parents don't want to drive me anywhere, so I'm stuck at home for now. I get my license in two weeks though, parents are giving me a car. :) Going to try to make it out for the '10 races.

The 21st might work for me too. I have a DR's appt in the am in Redlands and that would be something fun to do afterwards.

I'll have to see what kind of plans my wife has before I know anything for sure.

Thought of you today as I drove past those jumps and stuff by the Hesperia airport. Glad to hear you're still alive.

    Hmmmmmm:-k ....

Sell the car, by a used dh bike in good condition, some armor and a ff helmet and a beater pickup to use as a shuttle vehicle.
That's how I got into road racing when I was 15 (many many moons ago) although pops was not to happy with the idea.

Then just go hit up some tech trails and forget about all the pain that "could" happen (being 16 you should not have to many of those thoughts anyways;) ) and you will be on your way.

Get out with some people that are riding DH stuff. I was riding what I thought was steep and techy on my AM but it wasn't till I wet out with some DH guys (friend of a friend) that I really saw what was possible. Ran that same trail for several months while searching for a good deal on a DH. Found one and it was like someone turned the light on. Watc ebay, craigslist, and the forums. You should be able to find something for around a grand. Remember its something to start on until you really know what you want out of your rig. I've been running clips for 8 years so when I started DH it was more trouble than it was worth to switch to flats; but my focus is on racing, not FR stuff where flats are more desireableMy 2 cents

if i were in your shoes i would get a freeride bike that is around 7in of travel, they are a little more flickable and will help you get you bunneyhop down compared to a big slugish dh bike. If you feel really comfortable in clips go with clips, i perfer flat pedals and 5.10 shoes. Having 5.10 you feel really like your are cliped in, except you can dab a pedal if needed. I think it is just as important to trust your bike as yourself. On a final not if you dont have any body armor... get some. Alteast Knee pads, and Fullface.

Got a FullFace + Goggles + Spesh Lo-Pro's (Borrowed). Tried pedaling around on the Spesh Lo-Pro's today (I installed longer screws), they work great! Tried jumping around on them and trying to get my foot to slip, and to no avail, they didn't move.

Really happy with them with long screws, gonna try taking them out on friday, weather permitting.

I also have Roach FR Knee/Shin gaurds. I wear them whenever I try out new stuff, not a big fan of strapping plastic to my leg.
