Got to sit on the sidelines today and spectate during the DH race (self-preservation in light of next Saturday's VQ event ;) ).

The weather started off with light rain showers, which continued throughout the day. By the end of the race, the sun was out! Hats off to those who stuck it out to brave the elements and work their way down a slip-slidy course.

I tried to shoot as many people as possible but my battery started to die midway through the race. :( I may have randomly snapped you if you were going by. PM me with your # plate and I can check.

Anyhow, here are some of the DH pictures that I snapped today...enjoy :)

    First...sights from the shuttle line:

Craig...suited up and ready for action

My fastest lap is 35:30, and I couldn't sustain that for three laps.

Absolutely. STR pace line in full effect! I still don't know how that fourth-place dude came back from the dead like that. He looked totally done after the pave climb. I'll chalk it up to nice gamesmanship on his part. I may have to pull the same move on you next time out. ;) Oh, and congrats on your DH finish.

    Backtracking a bit...

Here are some pics from Saturday's XC race. Dan/Man blong Gaua was the photographer/bottle boy/pit crew chief extraordinnaire. We all did well and the weather held out nicely. In fact, it was pretty much ideal...tacky track, not hot, and not a lot of sun...but the air was a little warm.

I didn't do a great job hydrating and spent a lot of time fooling with the lockout on my shock (that's why racing a hardtail is such a no-brainer for me)...had I not been doing all those bad things, I would've been closer to Allison than I was. In the end, we all pushed our limits and rode our best :)

XC start...lots of pros today, including several roadies
    [IMG]

    Andy, single speed stud
    [IMG]

Justing, charging the start with BFloFoxRider (Brandon) in pursuit
    [IMG]

Monique "Pua" Sawicki, leading the women's pros (she won :))

Andy, lap #2...does he look tired? I didn't think so!

    Justin, lap #2

apparently i'm in a class (beg.) that brings in the new guys each week that are testing the "racing" waters. Unfortunately this means we get guys in our class that are too fast but don't know any better. We had 6 guys in our class Saturday, 3 of which were new, 2 of those were roadies with some beefy legs that flew up the first half of the course, and the 3rd guy apparently has ridden quite a bit in life won our class by a pretty big lead.

I didn't stick around for awards again this week, and took off before the results were up as well so I don't exactly know what place or what time i got but i know it was somewhere faster than slow. So once those are up, someone bump this thread up.

edit: nm, results are up the day after :)

edit #2: damn, apparently in most of the beginner classes a 40 min lap time is the time to beat

    ha, yeah just noticed. thanks

these are the winners from the various beginner classes...

    1 Adrian Ko Beg Men 19-26 Y 00:43:14.82

    1Terry Watkins Beg Men 27-34 Z 00:40:37.55

1Sean Mccoy Beg Men 35-44 ZA 00:37:27.65 - glad i'm not in this class. The top two guys have consistently put up near or sub 40min times...um, move up?

eh, my times have gotten faster every race so i assume i'll be near those times one day.
