SHARE Mountain Bike Club will be hosting Poles climbing Competition in Crystal Cove State Park - El Moro Canyon.

This event will replace the Dreaded Hill contest.

    More details will follow. www.sharemtb.org

For those who don't know where is "Poles", it is the trail that is opposite from "I think I can".

Meet at the bottom of Poles at 8:30am

Just a side note: Calling it the "first annual" event is incorrect, because it's not actually an annual event...yet. The first event should be called the "inaugural international..." After a year has passed, the second event can be called the "second annual..."

And why is it called an international event? Who gets credit for naming this event? :?:

Every time I see those poles I think, "Gee, those might be good for stringing a chair lift."

After noticing the other day how green the slopes of Dreaded Hill are starting look, I was hoping maybe there would be a 1-day permit to run the race there regardless of the condition of the rest of the park. Bummer - I've been looking forward to that since a work conflict kept me from trying it last year.

:lol: It is exactly the reaction I wanted.

The proposed name was "Poles climbing contest". I decided to make it funnier.

It is International because I am Canadian:beer:.

    Absolutly.

If I remember from the Dreaded hill contest, we had:
    Men, Women, Geared and Singlespeed.

Singlespeed on Poles should be quite interesting to watch. Unlike Dreaded, Poles gets steeper when you get to the top. Does a 22:34 setup count as a singlespeed?

So what I gather is that this race is put on by Polish guys who share clubs, and the worst manual wins. And women are allowed to race.

    Count me in!!\\:D/

First annual--it's actually not the first hill climb, just the first one at Poles, since Dreaded is closed. And, it has been an annual event for so many years (how many, I'm not sure, but at least two others).

Come on you guys, who doesn't like a good pole climb?

How long is the climb, how much elevation change.
Is there a category for Sloths..ie: Largest, slowest, funniest looking after gasping for air?
I've never been here, but might be interested in making a fool of myself.

Looking at this route, I think it's .35 mi about 500 ft.

I'm assuming the no non-pedaled forward movement rule will be in effect Serge?

I wouldn't want to even venture a guess. The way Manny ripped the Dreaded Hill Climb race was down right scary fast.

Just over a third of a mile....hmmm 500 ft or so of elevation. I'm wondering if there is anything close to where I live that is that steep to practice on....
How many runs/heats are there? I looked at the link and there isn't much/anything really posted up yet.

Yes, Wrecker I'd like to see a pole dance. :)

Oh yes, I remember that climb. My GPS program gives slopes up to 28% but YMMV. Google Earth gives a great view, you can see the shadows of the poles.

Picture and placemark for your viewing pleasure.

Honestly, the only time I ventured up poles was during one of my first mtb rides--it was one of those, "let's see where this trail goes" and I ended up breathing heavy, almost passing out, and vowing not to follow my friend again, as I WALKED up. So, should be fun to try it again ON the bike

Details are still being worked out....
