Finally Ready for some new brakes!

After a long wait I'm ready to replace my disc brakes which Rob let me borrow in the meantime. I'm looking to get Avid Juicy Sevens only because I hear they're good and I just like the name :lol:

I'm looking to buy off pricepoint but here's the question:
A) Should I be running 160 mm? Will be going on my hardtail but looking to transfer to FS frame in the future. I'm currently running Mavic 819's with Hadley Hubs if that helps. Oh and no real downhill action mostly just XC stuff.

B) Is there some place cheaper than Pricepoint that I should be looking?

C) Do you guys recommend another hydro brake that would be better than the 7's that would stay in the $300 price range for both front/rear?

Any info would be much appreciated. I have VISA card in hand so hurry up lol \\/

I never was a fan of the Juicy 7's, but that's just me. If you're looking to save $$, I've got a complete, unused set of Hayes 9's I'll sell you for $150. Prebled and ready to go.

No. They are standard Hayes 9's though. '06's I believe. I bought them and never used them. Was going to put them on my Reign, but I just sold it so...

 

Tektro mechanicals are the bestest breaks ever.

 

Unused as in brand new? Pics? Not familiar with em or many other brakes for that matter so could you fill me in on how good these are. I know sorry I'm a noob :?:

They don't have any lever adjustments like Juicy 7's or Hayes El Camino's, but I've always found them to be good, reliable, easy to set-up and maintain brakes. I have them on 2 of my 4 bikes.

Yo ross went to the site but can't find the brakes anywhere. Says their online store is being updated or somethin. You wanna point me in the right direction? One more thing: Aren't 203mm rotors overkill for XC? I thought those were more for downhill.

 

PacMan is right. no frills, just solid, trouble free brakes. I had a set of "originals" on my '99 Gary Fisher. in 8 years, I bled them maybe a couple of times, replaced the pads once, and rode the snot out of them. I'm going to take them off and give them to someone with old school mounts. They still work great!!

Haven't ridden in almost a month I think because of school and work. I'm dyin' here! Hopefully with new brakes I will find time out of my busy schedule to ride somethin. After brakes I'm getting lighting hopefully 8-[

 

Yes the 203mm rotors are for DH. The Hayes I have come with 160mm rotors.

New brakes are a nice upgrade. I have found that they can make a bike seem totally different. When I first switched my old Tracer from mechanical discs to hydros, I fell in love with the bike all over again.

jesse, i think you'dd benefit from a 7" rotor up front, and maybe in the back as well, you are a big bubb and the larger rotors will work in your favor....you'll experience 4.35537% less brake fade with the larger rotor.

 

I weigh 220 lbs without gear and never have trouble with 6" rotors. Heck, I didn't when I weighed 270 lbs either.

 

yeah i gues theyre maintaining it. its in the clearance area. 203 mm are overkill but for the price u could trade some mofo rotors. or sell em.

 

how hard and agressive do you ride? its not that the six inch rotors do a bad job, its just that the 7" or 8" ones do that much better....i find that with my riding style, i prefer to have at least 7" rotors.
