Besides Neil and I, does anyone else ride fatbikes on STR? I just bought one, Neil's ridden twice Salsa Mukluk (thanks Neil), and it is an amazing bike. If you have the opportunity, I would urge you to try one. (Unless your wallet is broken. In that case don't ride one. Your wife will soon be very upset with you.) I've had it for about two weeks now and I have been experiencing all of the local trails in OC in a completely different way. Let me be the first to tell you, snow bikes don't need snow. They're actually quite awesome all around fun machines. Look at this; I took it to the Huntington Beach Pier And UNDER IT! I took it to Whiting Ranch where I cleaned Mustard for the very first time ever. ON A FATBIKE nonetheless. Couldn't do it on a trance, reign, nomad, or 456 I even took it to the LOOP! It climbs really well! It goes down hills well! I go wherever I please! It even plays nice with less hefty bikes. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'd really like to start the SCFBBG (SoCal Fat Bike Biker Gang) Why? Because I haven't smiled so much on a bike since I was a five year old. PS Go check out http://forums.mtbr.com/fat-bikes/ Lots of fun info and pictures in there.
they really are fun bikes. tried fully mike's moon bike at oth a few months ago and was amazed how smooth it rode.
Yeah, I rode Fully Mike's Moon Rover (whatever Surly) for warmup at OTH back in the summer. Pretty cool, not that I'd want to ride it everywhere. Saw Pho'd Up with ?what's his name? (sorry forgot) taking a Mukluk (I think) up Maple Springs in the snow two winters ago. There are a few others. Who is it who does the Alaska big rides?
I have to give them a thumbs up for being easy to ride wheelies on. Although I haven't ridden one since 2008 when this picture was taken (fat bikes were popular there some time ago), they are fun to ride! Don't mind my work clothes.
If there was not a couple of coves in the way of me riding an all sand route from the house to downtown I think I would buy one. Dean
I just bumped into Neil (almost literally) yesterday, and he mentioned his and how the traction is incomparable. I think he put it "you almost don't steer - you just lean." I gotta try one.
Soooo, I've been pinch-flatting a lot lately. How do these things react to conditions that produce your typical pinch-flat? Any chance these work tubeless?
Steve FLIES on that thing. I haven't seen anyone have so much fun on a rigid than I have seen with Steve. Good ride today brotha!
Outside of my 2 favorite bike shops...they can be found here (someone needs to whip me and take away my credit cards!!!) http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/CBOOFATX5/on_one_fatty
