...so in the event of a crash, could the adjustment knobs etc be knocked off the fork by the frame???
Apples to Apples The Reba was introduced in 04 and the Fox in 07. I would guess that the Reba has out sold the F29 50 to 1. You are going to hear more Reba problems
I'm running the Fox and I love it. They are simple to work on and if the seals ever go bad just get some enduro seals and problem solved. I like the offset drop outs also, the steering is very responsive.
do yourself a favor and go get yourself a ventana machine crown race they come in 4 and 7...i have the cane creek S-3 plus 5 and use the 4mm crown race
I have used both the Reba and the Fox. If your goal is to run the lightest rig possible then go with the Reba. If you want tunability and better ride characteristics go with the F29. Reba: I tried everything to get this fork to give a plush ride. High pressure, low pressure, adjusting the travel, fiddling with the compression and air pressure in thenegative air chamber etc, etc. It is a great fork in the weight dept but it just doesn't give the quality ride that a Fox does. Fox: Despite the fact that it is heavier than the Reba race and doesn't have remote lock out, this fork performs way better than the Reba. I found that you do have to run a bit more pressure in it than in an F100 RLC, possibly because of difference in volume between the two. There ya go.
Thanks for the feedback. It's hard to beat Fox's plushness for sure. After reading through this post and others, I think I'm going to go with the Reba Race 29 for a number of reasons. One - the remote lockout. Having ridden rigid for the last year I'm really in the habit of getting out of the saddle a lot. I hardly ever use the lockout on my F100 RLC unless it's a big long climb as I hate to take my hands off the bars and fiddle with the levers in the middle of a rollercoaster singletrack, nevermind the fact that with full-fingered gloves on it messes up the rebound & compression settings too. Two - having ridden rigid ss pretty much exclusively for a year and not incurred any wrist or knee or back etc problems, either one of these suspension forks is going to feel pillow soft...the caveat being that if the Reba doesn't fully lockout it's probably going to bug me. Three - I found one for under 400 clams. So, if I'm not happy with the Reba I'll either go with a rigid fork (White Bros carbon Rock Solid?), or perhaps try out the F29, and some lucky STR member can have my cut Reba at a good discount. Four - it's relatively light. I mean at 1783g it's over 1000 grams heavier than a WB Rock Solid (771g), but it's pretty light for a susser. And I have a 20 something lbs rigid ss 29er already. oh, and Five - not to be a fashionista, but hey when you're spending money you're spending money, and I actually really dislike the fact that the F29 only comes in white. White is NOT the new black if you ask me. Building bikes is almost as fun as riding 'em...
you will be happy with the reba, properly setup it doesnt have enough squish lockout to notice I climp out of the saddle alot on mine 1x9 so i have too. Your joints will thank you for the squish over the rigid
Maybe all the Reba needs.... is a little "PUSH" http://www.pushindustries.com/services.php?serv_page=Rock Shox REBA&title=Rock Shox REBA
When I turned my computer on this morning I had $259 in my hand. After I clicked the PUSH link, a little Leprechaun on a bike came by and swiped it from me.
Price If you have the internal flood gate it is $215. If your fork needs to be rebuilt and you want it custom tuned for your weight and riding preference....I say it is a good way to go
Believe me I'm a BIG fan of Push products and have my Talas and 3 rear shocks with Push mods but I haven't really had any desire to modify my F29 fork. It is really plush right out of the box and I'd say it has a better chassis than the Reba does also.
Fox I pulled that WHITE fork out of the box last night and put it next to my frame#-o Having 2nd thoughts...........8-[
