I'm going up to eureka at the end of the month of a job interview and I want to make a mini vacation out of it. I'll be coming back down Friday through Sunday and I'll probably take the 101 all the way down and cut back over to Fresno. I'm thinking I'll hit Santa Cruz for sure, but I don't know what other than that. I'll be bringing my Hardtail 29er, Yelli Screamy. Any suggestions would be great

Thanks. I was just reading an article on the Mendocino trails in an issue of big mag that came out a few months ago. They were saying the miles of trail can make even the locals get lost

I was just up in Mendocino, went to the bike shop and picked up the map. Best thing to do is to go to Garmin Connect and download the trails to your Garmin and get a map from AAA. None of the trails are marked, so you will be looking around a bit. I did the trails out of Caspar used in their race and it was really nice. The downhill was pretty awesome. If you ride the San Gabes a lot, the trails are beautiful but tame.

We stayed in Arcata (5 miles north) and rode the Prairie Creek Redwood state park. It was a 26.5 mile loop.

The bike shop in Arcata (Revolution Bicycle Repair) was also really friendly. The provide us a map of the community forest with lots of trails.

The best part is the cool weather. Bring a jacket.

Is this the Ossagon Trail? Thinking of doing a road trip up in that area in the fall.

Yes, Ossagon Trail. We took Newton B. Drury Scenic Pky, to Ossagon, to Coastal Trail, to Davison Rd, to Streelow Creek. I recommend this counter clock direction because Ossagon is really fun going downhill. On the way back, the climb is done on the Davison Rd. So it was easier. It was 26.5 miles and 1530 ft elevation.

Well I ended up only staying in Eureka for a night, then spending most of my time in Santa Cruz.

But I ended up getting the job so I'll be moving to Eureka in the next month or so so I'll be trying out all these trails soon.
