Well, I just spoke with a ranger for that area, and he stated, quite emphatically, that el proeto is still closed! So now I don't know what to think. The link I posted was from a guy who was just there on 3/27/11, saying that a ranger even "waved" at him and "said hello"! So yeah, maybe they're just not officially announcing it as "open". I think I'll go anyway and see for myself.

If it's closed and you plan on riding it, don't post anything on here. It will be deleted> a closed trail is an illegal trail to ride. See posting guidelines #8

I won't post anything except to confirm the status, once I've been there. That seems to be the only sure way to know, since there's obvious conflicting reports. So, you can look at it as a service for the forum members who might like to know, and that's a good thing, right? But thanks for the ominous warning. :-k

I was there on Wednesday. The sign is up and clearly readable. I don't go in.

Ok thanks. I guess that's that. I doubt it will ever open again!

El Prieto is closed and it is inside the Station Fire closure area. A lot of individuals as well as advocacy groups have been working extremely hard in conjunction with the USFS to get the trails open for everyone's use. Broadcasting that you are poaching only serves to undermine the efforts of people like Steve Messer, Banner Moffat, Mark Gage, Mitch Maritch & CORBA in getting this trail open.
    Thanks for your understanding.

CaptMitch from Pasadena Mountain Bike Club attended a USFS meeting at Eaton Canyon Nature Center last week.

I wouldn't trust that other site as far as I could throw it! :)

The El P updates page there has a long back-and-forth between hacks who insist it's open and rationals who insist (rightly) that it's still closed.

I'm not sure who you were addressing, since you didn't include any quotes, but I hope you weren't accusing me of the above! If you *were* addressing me, I was simply trying to get definitive information as to the status, since there seemed to be so many conflicting reports. And when I said I would go there, it would only be to try to get confirmation IN PERSON.

I never said that I would ride it, and/or ignore any signs or whatever. Please be careful with your accusations, or ascribing words, intentions, and/or actions to people that they NEVER said or did, and read posts carefully BEFORE you post. Thanks.

PS: You could have posted the trail status of El Prieto as a "sticky" or at least made a thread about it, in which case my thread would not have been necessary. Prior to posting my thread, I SEARCHED for "el prieto" in thread titles; many came up, but i didn't see your. The most recent I could find was from 2010.

Terry, the Ranger for that area posts to STR now and then and has been keeping us updated. Not frequent updates because basically not much has changed. If you ride out there to see if it is open it probably looks open...signs tore down and lots of foot prints and bike tracks...seeing that will give you the wrong impression.

The Rangers STR screen name is "ANF FS Ranger" he may respond to a PM. Also Kanga and El Presidente (CORBA) are watching developments closely and I rely on them to keep STR updated.

Relax, I am not accusing "you" or anyone else of anything. My post was for informational purposes only, so you may want to heed your own advice above.

Just to let you know, I found 2 other threads in the "Trail Conditions" forum for El Prieto and I have now merged all three.

P.S. Trying using keyword searches for 1 word only in the title field!
