Any tips? Gary fisher rig is the bike. Noisest thing I have ever heard. It can be heard from 40 ft. I feel it in my feet. Sounds like the frame is breaking. It used to only make the kind of noise when I would hammer up hills but now it is constant.

    100% cleaned
    100% lubed
    BB feels tight/good

I am willing to buy a new frame to rid the noise thats how bad it is and anybody who rode the loop for Sam's farewell heard it.

Any ideas or tips to help me out.

it may be breaking, as sad as it sounds.

I would carefully look over the bike for cracks/stresses, especially in the BB area.

good places to look are in the middle, and on the sides of any welds. also check for stresses (the paint will be stretched and you'll be able to tell).

Another thing: have you taken a look at whatever hardware is needed to fix the EBB in place? those might need some grease, and could be easily overlooked

Did you lube between the wedge and EBB?

What kind of noise is it making? Creaking? Grinding?

Mine has been creaking a lot too. It was driving me nuts on a recent ride, so I loosened and re-tightend the EBB. When that only made things worse I turned the bike over to try again and noticed a crack around one of the bolts that holds the EBB in place. Its a zion frame so I can't warranty it any longer. I am going to see if a custom shop can weld that sucker on tight.

    good luck

the crack on the pinch bolt was a common prob on the early zion frames. the later ones had a bigger boss. Have a shop gusset it

you need to take EVERYTHING down there apart... BB, EBB, Cranks, Chainring bolts, etc... clean and lube it all, put back together... worked for me, I don't know how many times I just cleaned and lubed the EBB before that with no luck.

I'd also try one of these before I did anything drastic.

Already did all of that...and I lubed the shit out of everything with good waterproof grease.

Checked for cracks...none. I will inspect closer.

EBB wedge bolt is torqued TAF without breaking it.

    EBB does not slip.

Any SS frames out there a copy of kona's rear drop out/caliper slide? Chromoly?

Thanks for the tip Dean & Burner, I hadn't thought of an expanding EBB. Would probably be cheaper than welding too. I will still need to do something about that crack as I don't want to develop problems with rust. Maybe some JB weld or other filler will work.

Anyone tried either of these expanding EBB's? Both are around the same price and look decent. I'd lean towards the nylon Carver model due to the promise to eliminate creaking.

I heard it on the fully loop ride. It is a crackling creak with a little clunk at the end of each peddle stroke.

It was so loud it was unbelievable. This is a challenge I'm up to .

If you want to bring it by one night this week I am sure we can get it figured out.

    PM if you are interested.

It not too hard to fix. Instead of using grease/lube - use anti seize. I've been using it on my '08 Rig and don't have any issues. Also, don't over tighten the BB. The Bushnell wedge type BB will distort the BB shell causing the problem to get worse, not better. I've got over 1,000 miles on my SS and it's quiet as a mouse.

One other thing - I usually tear down the BB every 25-30 hours of riding, but I live in Big Bear when the dirt is really fine. Adjust accordingly.

    Stuff works wonders.

I tore it down again and reassembled will ride tomorrow. If it is noisy im bringing it down. I dont understand why somebody doesnt make a legitimate tool for the BB cups. Im using the $40 forged spanner no sure of the brand but I think its japanese and thats what a LBS told me they would use when I went in to buy a park tool so I could actually torque it with a torque wrench. I did notice if I tighten the BB cups too much the BB will not spin freely so I had to back it off until the BB spun free. Hopefully thats not too loose.

Thanks for the offer Jason I may be taking you up.

Copious amounts of lube on the BB cups solved it. Light layer of lube did not.
Now I can hear my stem...

Copious amounts of lube makes everything quieter.
