Well, I leave next Thursday for my first Durango, CO to Moab, Utah hut to hut trip. I think I'm pretty well prepared but still vetting certain pieces of gear ( reward vs. weight). I checked the search engine on STR and didn't find any previous posts on this route. Has anyone out there done it? Any tips or thoughts would be appreciated. Regardless, full RR and pics to follow.

Here's a shot of the Colorado trail above Silverton. We will be riding this on day one. (Little Molas Lake to Bolam Pass.)

Not familiar with the route. I didn't know there was a hut system beyond the high mountains of CO. Does most of your route stay above 8000' (until Moab, of course)? Heat would be my primary concern if not.

BTW, if that's a recent photo, I am stoked about the apparent level of moisture. So green! It was that green in the Summit County, Eagle County area where I was hanging out last week.

There are a few days where heat will definitely be a factor, as well as thunderstorms or even snow in the high country. Also, the pic was one I took in 2008, but I have friends in Silverton, CO that tell me conditions are identical this year and the wildflowers are in full bloom!

This sounds really fun. MTB touring w/o a lot of gear seems like a great way to go. Can't wait for the RR.

These links were a huge help! I will "pay it forward" and follow up with an appropriate RR. Thanks!

That should be an awesome trip! I read about those huts somewhere about a year or two ago, and it's definitely on my bucket list. Don't know if I'll ever manage to do it, but I can't wait to read the RR and see the pics!

    Have a great trip!
