GOT my droid today! $100 + tax of course = $154. been playing with it all evening. time to load it with apps!

    any suggestions?

i will say this...i do like the simplicity of the iphone. the droid seems more "complicated" but im sure ill get used to it.

downloaded MyTracks by google and OruxMaps so i can import gxp files from GL. its not very straight forward. you have to connect the droid via usb to a computer and copy and paste the gxp file into the appropriate folder. Mytracks and Oruxmaps loads the file and now i just need to go ride and see how it tracks. :)

Hey Joshik! I will have to check out OruxMaps. I was hopping to download files from GL.
Here are a couple apps I found cool. Again, I am new to the phone so I have not explored its full potential.
Key Ring- Puts all your rewards cards into your phone so you don't have to carry them on your key chain or wallet.
Droid Light-Turns your flash into a flashlight.
    I know, cheasy, but fun.

yeh, i tried to download the gpx files from gl directly from my droid but the link to download the gpx file downloads a check_download.php file.

so i had to download it on my laptop and transfer it to my droid via the usb cable.

yeh, i love the droid light app. i just used it tonight when i got home. :)

other than that, a few mapping apps, games and file manager, i havent downloaded much else. i like to keep it simple. i cant wait for the new 2.1 android to come out for the droid. supposed to be a lot smoother and much faster.

This App rocks....makes my Garmin look pretty sad!!! It links into your ipod music too, so it entertains you while you're messing with settings. Two thumbs up :bang:

Oh sorry...this is iphone stuff....don't mean to derail ;) Btw...who makes the droid? I'm just a fan of the iphone because I can walk into an Apple store for anything I need.....does Droid have its own store??? Allllrightythen. (hee hee)

Another cool app is "dolphin browser". It has good ratings and supports tabs, multitouch with pinch, gestures... I just dled it and it seems good. ;)

It works great but I use the Verizon's 3G service the most because of convenience.

Yen I don't use the wiring much. I turn I off to conserve battery power... but it does work well. The 3g works fine for normal browsing.

I'm loving my Droid. I tracked my ride yesterday off Malibu height Google's my tracks a d uploaded it to my tracks on Google maps directly from my phone. It also loads the trip data to a spread sheet on Google docs so you can track your progress.

BTW.. my bro who has an iPhone is jealous of my Droid: )

Try MyTracks (it's free). It's a great app and works better than google maps for riding. Also lets you export your ride states to a spreadsheet in Google apps so you can track progress over time. I've been using an android device for about 5 months and it's the best mobie device I have ever used.

This is what a sample Trimble map looks like http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com/ViewTrip/589519

Trimble Outdoor also has a really good app. Though it's not free it is feature packed for all outdoor activities, riding, hiking, you name it.

Oh I forgot to add. Trimble allows you to add media to your map straight through the app while you are on your ride. Makes it easy to add pictures and video if you like.
