The droid is expandable to 32GB which is the largest iphone size, plus you can have an infinite amount of cards.
The droid has a nicer camera
The droid has a nicer display
All batteries fail eventually and wont hold charges

Your points don't really hold water

With that said, I'm not a smart phone user and don't plan to be, but I do like the iphone more than the droid and if it came to verizon I might be tempted to buy one.

I too have a Droid, my only complaint is that I think the phone functions were an afterthought.

Everything gets better as time goes on. I have had my iphone for over two years now and have never had an issue with it. I have no reason to take my battery out, I don't see how that is even an issue. It's over two years old and still holds a charge fine. I would like to get a new 3GS, but have a feeling something new will be released this summer with a better camera, blah, blah, blah...so I plan on waiting for that.

I played with a droid for a bit, one of the IT guys at work got one. My impression of it is that it's a nerd phone. If you are a tech geek, you will like it, but I really doubt it will have the mass appeal and support that the iphone has. Don't get me wrong, I'm a bit of a tech nerd, so it's not without it's merits, but it would never get me to switch and I'm not even under contract anymore. Personally, I don't like hard keyboards at all and even less of a fan of phones that move/slide, because that mechanism fails. To me, part of the iphones charm is that it's so simple, but powerful at the same time.

As stated above, I can only imagine what phones will be in 5 years. Whatever your platform, I am looking forward to only having to be able to carry my phone and having it do whatever I need. Even 10 years ago in high school, I never thought I would be carrying the internet around in my pocket. I think the competition is good....

i want the droid only because its on the verizon network. ive had my palm treo 700p for EVER. it is BEAT to heck. ive held on to it waiting for something cool to come out from verizon so i can take advantage of the "new every 2" $100 credit. :) im not a fan of the hard keyboard either.

but i really do like the feel of the iphone and now the new Nexus One. But the Nexus One will only be available on GSM networks so out goes verizon.

The sad reality is that no matter how advanced the droid is, the phones in Japan are years ahead of ours.

There was a interview with a guy in Japan regarding phones and the iphone and he just laughed at us.

We get soooo excited when apple or motorola gives us a new feature, something the rest of the world has had.

I'm happy about my droid in the fact that I've got reception where I didn't have it before. This last weekend I went to a few places that before I knew I didn't have reception/very good reception and I had great reception.

The Droid compared to the Iphone, having had both. The droid is the bomb.

Music player isn't super fancy but it DOES play music..

I'm hoping someone will port over winamp to the droid soon.

That's just cause it's on the AT&T network
Ideally what I'm waiting for is something with the verizon network, replaceable battery, Tegra 2, an OLED touch screen with native multi-touch, and a sliding design w/ keyboard cause if it's got a tegra im totally gaming on it and games need buttons. :bang:

For the fellas that have an IPhone already, pretty cool app that I use on my rides. It's called MotionX GPS. The first screen shot was from a ride over there by Santiago Canyon College. If you look closely, it looks like a...? The other one is just tracker I had running while riding the Fullertonloop. :bang:

Not to be a luddite, but...it's a phone. You're spending all this time talking about a toy. While it's all neat bells and whistles and gee whiz stuff, nothing that one of these expensive little toys can do is necessary in life. If anything, it keeps you from being outside, from enjoying the real.

    Put the phone down.

    Go outside.

    Ride your bike.

I wish I agreed, but I have to respectfully disagree. For the last 2 years my iPhone has allowed me to detach from the "office" and head out to Fruita, Moab, a couple of trips to see some friends in far away places, a couple of motorcycle races, a couple of MTB races and at least a few trips to the bar. Yes, it was mostly the phone and email that made this possible, but coupled with Webex and iDisk, I was able to keep documents flowing and be in a location of my choosing versus being chained to a desk.

Now I'm going to hunt down some beer at Pizza Port while I'm "working.". Cheers!

    Agreed.

The difference is, if you're shackled to a desk during the day as I am, the internet is there one way or another. I'd be a fool not to utilize it.

Once the option is presented to turn it off, and one can't bring themselves to - that's when it turns the corner from being a tool to being a leash.
