Something for the cyclist's attorneys to look into. Some people will attempt to get out of any civil losses by moving assets into other's names, or having others place liens on their assets, like homes. I hope the good doc isn't trying to do this, as if it's proven in court, he's screwed as are the people who assisted.

It could either be a nasty rumor, or perhaps he's had to pay extremely high legal fees without any income.

It's good to hear this deustchebag got what he deserved. If he survives jail, he can look forward too having that felony and jail time permanently hanging over his head whenever he has a background check. All those years of schooling and hardwork pretty much just pissed a way.

It was on kfi. One lady went to the sentencig to report on it. She said it was packed. Standing room only. Lots of cyclists and lots of residents of that area.

I'm sure the vics will go after the doc civilly next.

I'm sure he spent tons of money on lawyers for hi crappy legal defense.

A police officer told jurors that shortly after the crash that Thompson said he slammed on his brakes in front of the riders to "teach them a lesson."

    A good lesson indeed!

Unfortunately he'll probably be out in under 3 years. Oh well, with his background, it won't be easy time. Bon voyage, Doc... looks like you're riding the chain.

Not applying a strong sentencing would have sent the wrong message.

Others motorist might have attempted to copy cat the Dr's actions in a similar situation.

Now I feel safer to ride on the road

I read an article about the sentencing. Is it true that his driving privilege has been revoked for the rest of his life once he gets out of prison?

For all that he was convicted of and his arrogance - I think he got a fair sentence. From what I understand most DUI killers and manslaughter convictions get less.

    Don't give them any ideas...
I am jet-lagged, in China, and I see first-hand what a government can and will do to people given the chance.

Getting back on topic, Dr Thompson got what he deserved, will probably get 3 years on appeal, serve 1.5, never get to meet Bubba, and may end up writing a book/screenplay about his "ordeal".

If he never gets to drive again-how would he ever get a license to ride-under your proposal?

I think he will lose on appeal as an example. But will only serve 18 months or so for good behavior and the need to make room for another more violent offender and or health issues. If they keep in too long, then he gets even more expensive medical care on our dime as well. You can be sure that part of his incarceration strategy will be to cost the taxpayers as much as possible in hopes of getting a medical release.

As for the Dr., theoretically he wouldn't be able to get a license. He can effin take public transportation or walk for all I care.

I am sure he has plenty of money stashed under an others name. He can afford to hire a driver.

Negative. I can spot more traffic violations by drivers in a single day than you can cyclists in an entire month. If you disagree, let's take a drive together one of these days and we'll quantify that. That being said, of course cyclist should be more responsible out there on the road. Everyone should.

Ok but % wise how does it work out. I guessing you see a lot more vehicles in a day then bikes so it natural that you see more violations from cars.

I ride road and constantly see people breaking the law, including my group. I have been dropped because I stopped at a stop sign#-o. Sure there are a ton of bad drivers but % wise I would say the bikes are worse (if you exclude minor speeding violations). Just in the last few days I couldn't even count how many bikes were riding on wrong side of street on bigger streets, riding on sidewalks and running stop signs. Sure cars break the law all the time but I would guess a very large % of violations would be speeding by 5-10 mph. Lets be realistic most of us do it too and by the general public its normal and if bikes could regularly do this they would too. The biggest problem is the running red lights, stop signs, which seems to be the most common thing bikes do and is a much more of a major violation in a car and when they see bikes do it all the time it looks bad.

Sorry bikers need to just follow the laws no matter now inconvenient it is before we can complain about what others are doing.
