DH Trails in Orange County

This is NOT East Horse Thief. It is WEST Horse Thief. EHT is more of a ridge line drop like Skinsuit, Bell, Pinos. EHT is really rutted. I've seen 2 foot wide ruts, 4 feet deep. It ends up in lot used to dump all the junk people are too cheap to take to a dump. If you wind up there, you were on the right trail.

I really dont understand why some of you are SO against illegal trails....legalized trails get completely owned by *legal* trail maintenance...w/ p-lines and trail widening, less gnarl lines etc....and the whole not mentioning telonics thing is completely redundant...its a world-renowned trail for god sake...

i was under the impression this was a biking community, not a soccer moms anonymous.

OP: there are a lot of possibilities, but obviously if anyone posts them here they will be deleted because these kids dont condone illegal trails (which is basically all of the DH in socal).

Because if you read the guidelines, it says so. Ride it if you must, just don't post it here.

Also, the land managers come on here as well. To continue to post your rides on illegal trails will have a negative affect on mountain bikers as a whole.

I was at Aliso today and saw a new line cut on the switchbacks on Dripping Cave. If riders don't stop, they could just close off areas completely since we can't seem to police ourselves and make it a hiking only trail.

Hey mark and to all those that bag on the orange curtain go to a wednesday night local ride and see if you can keep up on the ups and downs. I sure as hell I know I cant, so I keep my mouth shut. If you really want to know how much you suck, if you show up on a wednesday night you will more than likely have your ass handed to you by a few guys on single speeds that can keep up or stomp everyone else on the dh trails.

Well there is a tire named after the trail, there is a bootleg dh race every year that has been published in a magazine, a news paper & people from the u.k come over her to race it. Trails that are maintaind better than public park trails, but F@%k me right? and technically telonics is not a illegal trail, the local rangers just take their jobs a little to serious. I am not going to say too much, but all I can say is this. rangers ride Mtb bikes too, and not all of them like xc stuff.

this thread is classic. people confusing 3 different trails (and easthorsethief does not = the S.H. trail). and not being cocky here, but easthorethief is not that STEEP. i've ridden many trails with double the steepness (and that is exact, 3100 in 2.5 miles verses what you claim at 2500 in 4 miles). easthorse is stupid right now as its a giant rut(sure its ultra hard to clean but for dumb reasons). take the rut out and it would be great. as far as pedeling 40 pound bike up ortega, no problem, i'm sure its easier than pushing a 40 pound bike up 6000 in palm springs

you wants steeps in OC that is legal (at least i think it is), try yagger: that's a truely steep/loose descent.

now who wants to help remove the giant rut on EHT, i'm game?

Not bagging on the trail the Orange Curtian etc.. but to say it is a World Class trail is crazy. People come to Sea Otter to race from all over the world does that make the DH course World Class too?

Ohh and I know I am slow I dont need to go there on Wed to learn that.

 

You'll need more than just folding shovels to fill those ruts, but appreciate the effort even if you don't wind up doing it. EHT has many ruts that overlap making it unrideable in many sections. DFT is right, almost stupid to even ride it. The lower half of Los Pinos has been brushed and we're doing the top half next Sat. Bell was brushed this past Spring and Smashface is also brushed. Those are 3 great trails.
