**Date Change** Hurkey Creek Campout 4/22/11 - 4/24/11

Does anybody know when the Hurkey Creek Campout is happening this year. Looking forward to it and trying to plan ahead. Thanks.

I'm going to have to go with the last weekend, Friday April 29, Saturday April 30 & leaving on Sunday May 1st. There are only four of our normal spaces (105 - 124) currently reserved. A friend of mine is going to reserve 115, and we have the option of also reserving the tent camping only sites also (99-104).

Last year second weekend in April, the two years before that the first weekend in April. So far no one has picked up the ball and set anything up. Since you are the first to bring it up guess what!

Hurkey Creek Campout?

Oh man! I wouldn't even know where to start....

Do I have to check with the campgound to see if it's ok to bring in a hoard of mountain bikers on a given weekend? Do I have to notify the local police that suspicious characters will be lurking about? Is there a way to do reservations, or is it first come first served? I'll tell you right now I'm not leading the ride we'll be lost in the woods forever! Wait....that doesn't sound so bad....maybe I will lead the ride.

Alright somebody step in and tudor me please.

 

:wave::wave: I vote for first weekend in April - so I can actually GO FOR ONCE!!! (have to be in China later in the month).

 

I used to organizing it then Liz took over and maybe time to pass the torch. First see what other events are happening on the same weekend then listen to what others want knowing that most will not be happy no matter what you do then just pick any weekend you want. Look at the reservation map on Hurkey Creeks website and stay away from weekends that are already near full. Don't try to organize rides because people will get into sub groups and do there own thing. Normally STR takes up the whole loop of campsites 105 thru 124 looking at the reservation map first weekend looks good the second weekend already has some sites taken.

+1 on the first weekend i'v got a harley run on the second weekend.

 

That is VQ/CC weekend> Apr 2. But like Dean said, picking a weekend that will please everyone is impossible.

Like I said, picking a weekend is tough. 3rd weekend in Apr> Sea Otter. I won't be going to that, but many will.

Just go with a weekend and stick to it. Those who want to camp out will. Debating about which weekend never worked in the past and it won't work now either.

 

well we need to call in sick and make this a weekday event tues,weds,and thurs so we can make all the rides/events on the weekend.

 

Hurkey Campout!!! Not to be missed! I vote for the second weekend (third works too).

Hurkey Creek Campout?

Hello all, just checking back in with you. Still working on it. I've narrowed it down to the 1st weekend (4/1, 4/2, 4/3), the 3rd weekend (4/22, 4/23, 4/24), and the last weekend (4/29, 4/30, 5/1). Metallica plays in Indio on 4/23 though.....

Waiting for the person in charge of reservations at Hurkey to call me back. Thanks for your posts everybody!

The lady we spoke with at Hurkey thought that I would have to pay for all of the spaces up fron in order to hold them...........can this be right?

Don't pay for them all up front. Just pick a weekend (my vote is for the 3rd one), reserve a site, and then post it and we'll all start making reservations. In the last couple years, we were able to grab most all of the spots within a day or 2.

 

Only only reason to prepay is if they are willing to set us up in the group camp that is away from the main camping area. It is easy to make single site reservations on line and no one should have to take financial responsibility for others. Many say they are going to go, many say they want to go, but when it is still in the 20-30 degrees up there at night or a threat of rain they bail. Let them bail on their own $.
