I can imagine hitting a drop, the fork wanting to compress, and a threaded metal rod launching off the fork.

For me, I've always liked the idea of the dog collar lockout.

+1 on Abui's comment. While I appreciate the effort, that looks like a trip to the ER waiting to happen.

Gotta bet that would void your fork's warranty too ;)

I really hope this is a joke, but for your revision #2 I suggest opening the topcaps and filling the fork with gravel, it would probably work better for you.

Didn't you see the tape on the arch? He's already tried this and that was throw-out idea #1.

Ok, I see how this is working.... yo uhave a thin...... I said THIN peice of all thread, that is permamounted to the lowers, and on the crown you have a rig that with the turn of a lever allows a sliding action...... When it in the "locks Position, it holds still in the top, when in the "open position the all thread slides through the top part as the fork moves.........

Two things right off the bat.... do you have your right knee?????

and what are you going to do when it fails and trys to lock when you dont want it to?

Not being a dick, but seriously, its dangerous. for one that fork is a fork that really shouldnt need any type of a lockout when its working properly. now as far as a lock out to be safe, there is a very key something about them that has to happen..... It needs to self bypass when you forget to turn it "off"... this would be why fork manf's with lockouts pretty much all go with this standard, and operate off the compression valving.

I dig the idea of an add on lock out system, but something like this is just disater waiting to happen..... not thinking of damage to the fork, but damage to you as a rider........ Just WAY to much that can go wrong here....... unless that is..... you really like stitches.

cut the guy some slack. Im sure when someone brought up the idea of a shock on a bike, he/she was hammered in the same way. Now look.

It also occurs to me that most of the times I've used a lockout are on climbs when I want to get out of the saddle, lean forward a bit, and stand on the pedals. That would put my face right over that contraption - perfect for losing an eye or worse when it fails. No way on earth I would ride that thing.

Haha definitely feelin' the love on this one! LOL. This is just one of those "I wonder if I could..." projects.

The 'points' raised are definitely valid...

At the least, I glad to be able to provide some humor! Your responses are hilarious LOL... My favorite is the 'double facepalm'.

Lock-out happens on the inside. Fork manufacturers already have it figured out. Leave it to the pros. Unless you're a self taught engineer like the owner of PUSH Industries who CNCs his own valves, etc. Then you've got something special.

Keep thinking and dreaming though. Something will click. In the mean time, do us all a favor and please take that thing off your fork ;)
