So I've had this idea in my head about making a 'do it yourself' lockout function for awhile now... I finally decided to see if I could figure something out.

Now, before you guys start, I know it's ugly, and I know it's ghetto! But it seems like it works so far, although I haven't taken it on a 'real' ride yet...

I'll post a few pics here, you can see the rest on the IE MTB blog...

    Haha yeah, I know... ghetto.

@Diamondback: In theory, it should be protected by the tape, so hopefully it shouldn't scratch... in theory.

My $450 reba has lockout... and floodgate, and dual air, and rebound adjust... and remote pushloc...

But, the maker in me loves this... still can't figure how it works though

I'm kinda with Diamondback on this one. EDIT: Except for the bashing Rockshox part.

Although it seems unlikely that you'll scratch the stanchions anywhere that matters (unless of course the valve giggles closed a bit while descending and the rod grabs an edge and that whole band goes scraping down your stanchion) I think some serious cosmetic damage is in the forks future as soon as you hit a bump with it locked out.

Metal is harder than tape and those bands are gonna saw through that tape pretty damn quick.

Your fork though. I imagine you are gonna have to put one ride on it after going through all the trouble. Make sure to let us know how it goes.

You may want to put one on the other leg as well. You'll get twice the holding power.

Aghast! No way that can stay together. A broken rod would make a nice shish kabob for your body. Just jam a 2x4 between the arch and crown.

I don't know. It looks ghetto, but it's a decent idea for lower end forks (think Dart series), w/o lockout. Granted it looks weak and any hits would snap your beloved invention, but who knows? This could be the ugly prototype of a multi million dollar
Invention. I wouldn't expect intermediate and up level riders to have any interest though.

    Fail.

Even a Rock-shucks Dart has a better lockout.
