I was thinking about a way to get some 'different' camera angles and I came up with this "custom camera mount". It's super ghetto for now, but I really liked the shot/angle it gave! This is a video from the Jackrabbit trail in Loma Linda.

    Here's the video...

Yeah, a few have done this and I believe there is a company that is making a boom just for this angle but I can not recall the name.Still a cool angle.

I think that guy does have it figured out, Very cool angle!

    Eric,
I like yours, but the camera needs a fisheye lens or something, cuz you seem to fill the whole frame. Has anybody thought about using RC helicopters to film thier exploits? If you could get the first person perspective for the pilot while he flies it, it might work?

Totally made me think of the Sam Hill vid CA_descender posted up.

But whereas the other booms have figured out how not to get the boom in the frame, I really get creeped by the whole locked-head look of the vids from the booms that are mounted to the rider's helmet. Your vid look more natural in that regard, but you just gotta figure out a system that gets the boom out of the pic and keeps it off your helmet...

great camera mount! another STR member, Drop D, also made a similar mount but one that can rotate and provide different perspectives without the stationary locked-head look. Check it out HERE.

I believe that there is a guy on this forum who flies RC helicopters with cameras for a living. I'd love to have that capability to shoot. An eye in the sky, on the ground AND a helmet cam, and handle car mount cam would be a lot of different angles! Even a camera pointing backwards to see where the rider has gone would be a cool addition!

InlandEmpire, cool video and cam angle! The only thing I felt that was off was not being able to see tire to dirt contact.

It's nice to see people trying out new things!

WOW!! $200!!! I gotta start making camera mounts on my lathe!

What about a fishing pole attached either across your bike and over your head, or along the top tube of the bike frame? Or even a pool cue, both could break down into sections and be quite small. I also wonder if while you used the top tube mount fishing pole, attach two strings going to tips of handlebars both for stability and effect for going around turns, it would sort of pan to your front more. Either way, that attached to the head stuff creeps me out, but it does give the smoothest picture.

I've been trying to figure out a DIY boom similar to that, but I don't want it visible in th shot. I really like what you have, though. Better than anything, I've come p w/

I had thought of that in the past, and think it would ridiculously awesome! Do you know if he's filmed any mountain biking with it?

Thanks! I still plan on doing some tweaking to the 'prototype'...
