Does anyone know how to overhaul a Joplin seatpost? Mine started to have a problem that the seatpost gradually rises during riding. I've been using it only for 2 month. It's so annoying, and it does not serve the purpose anymore.
Send it in to CB. When I had the joplin, the whole clamp system broke after experiencing what you described. They upgraded mine to the newer clamps which prevented this.
The manual should be on CB's website. Just remove the main bolt, clean and grease. For pneumatic problems, you need to have CB take care of it.
This didn't fix mine. :?: Just send it in, and have trouble-free performance for at least a year. They'll take care of the pneumatic system too. Two day turn-around for me.
butasan - try this: cycle the post through its range of motion about 30 times. press the lever, push it all the way down, and then press the remote/lever to let the post rise back up on its own power - DO NOT PULL IT BACK UP. do this about 30 times or so and see if it helps. some times my joplin will take in air if i accidentally pull my saddle up (with my hands or with my legs while riding). trapped air can make the post start to extend and inch or so (on mine) and feel squishy. works for my post every time...
Totally agree with trying the cycle solution first. The only problem I've ever had with my Maverick Speedball, which is the Joplin now, was that the seat was slowly falling during one ride. I thought it was an air pressure problem and took it apart to add air. Long story short, all it needed was to cycle it through about 5 or 6 times to completely solve the problem.
If you live close to Laguna, just drop your stuff off directly w/ CB. Their office is great, and so are the people who work there.
How did you add air? Mine lost a fair amount of air pressure so that I actually have to pull it back up manually. It seems nothing fits the valve at the bottom of the inner tube. It's a 10mm thread.
I'm not sure if CB has changed the interior construction, but with the Speedball, I just had to use a 10mm socket wrench inside the bottom of the post. I've attached a pdf here that outlines taking it apart for regreasing. Once it's apart, you can access the air valve. This was the trickiest part with mine as the super lightweight cap on the valve was so tight it was tough to unscrew without messing it up. Once I checked it though, air pressure was fine.
That bolt around the neck of the valve is the one that needs to be removed with the 10mm socket wrench as the first step in taking it apart. It should spin off separate of that big silver disk piece under it...maybe it's stuck on the valve and large silver piece and it spun that whole thing out?
shock pump. anyways, CB will handle it when you tired of handling it. Its annoying but they really do have great customer service. Mine is one year old and twice it has been serviced. Second time in person, and that experience changed my mind about throwing it in the trash.
