Received this info from Chris Vargas who works for the county and he asked me to pass this along.

WARRIOR’S SOCIETY FOREST ACCESS UPDATE: BLACK STAR CANYON ROAD TO HAVE LIMITED CLOSURES DURING WEEKDAYS (NOV. 23[SUP]RD[/SUP] TO DEC. 23[SUP]RD[/SUP])

The County of Orange’s OC Public Works Department has awarded a construction contract to replace three deteriorated timber bridges along Black Star Canyon Road. The bridges are located two to three miles north of Silverado Canyon Road along Black Star Canyon road. This road becomes Skyline Drive at the Orange/Riverside County line. This project will improve access for emergency services and the public to the unincorporated County wilderness areas and the Cleveland National Forest.

The road is a narrow, twelve feet to fourteen feet wide dirt road that is currently being used for hiking, biking, fire and emergency access, as well as local property owner access. Black Star Canyon Road will be closed for public hiking and biking use on Mondays thru Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on November 23rd to December 23rd.

No weekend closures are anticipated. For further information on this project, please contact Javier Soto, Manager OC Inspection/Contracts, at (714) 245-4505 or George Zaun at (714) 448-6829.

I was going to do blackstar tomorrow starting at the tree farm going up and back? Is the paved road to the gate what they are referring to? I'm not that familiar with the bridges they are talking about. Thx

No, they're on Black Star. If the construction is going on tomorrow, you will not be able to pass.

I a$$ume at this late date that the only way to determine whether they're working tomorrow is to attempt to ride there.

No surprise, but B* was open today --- if you slept late or need post-tryptophan exercise, the terrain is perfect.

Pretty sure they meant it would be closed from the 23rd(yesterday), but "most" understanding that no construction would be going on today or tomorrow as well therefore passable. Maybe I should've added "except on Thurs because of Thanksgiving and the Friday after since most get that day off as well" ; p

They are replacing the bridges, and last night they got 3 of the concrete sections installed, but is not safe for use. So they claws the road for 72 hrs. They are doing the same thing starting next Monday, when the replace the second bridge.

I talked to one of the construction guys last night who stated they started construction on that bidge on tuesday. if you account for there 72 hour closure limit you might be lucky for a thursday open, but he stated that his goal was to have the bridges completed for the weekends and friday through sunday would be ones best option. this week is the first bridge with the other two following the next two weeks. When I left they had all the cement cross sections in place and it looked to be in the finishing stages.

Thanks for the Info. We'll probably skip this Thursday, just in case and choose another venue for tomorrow.

The sign I saw there today said closures were through Feb. (don't remember if it stated an actual completion date) The walk through gate was blocked off, as in,"We really mean it..."

In the event that any OC folks decide to give b* an early morning shot tomorrow/Thursday (...and they're carrying their phones), please post the status. I was hoping to do skyline/motorway tomorrow and wouldn't get there til around 11:30 anyway. ....just sayin', love you long time! :)
