Cover it in cactus and other native plants that don't require watering. Nice fence too BTW! This is like the BS that Glendale is trying to force over on residents of the Glendale annexed portion of La Crescenta by retroactively outlawing fences and walls. They were getting away with it big time until they went after a resident who happened to be a lawyer and they got their ears pinned back with filings and counter suits. But the city is again trying to go after folks to force them to remove walls and fences. Some municipalities have nothing better to do.
Why don't they stop using tax money to penalize sombody for saving water and use it for somthing worthwhile? This is why our nation is in such a fatty debt.
I'm impressed with how much water they saved (from 299,221 gallons/year down to 58,348!). Wish everyone would break the law that way.
Our neighbors recently removed their grass and replace it with artificial turf. It is very green and surrounded by a cement curb. Every time I look at it I want to play miniature golf. BTW, does anyone else out their have artificial turf? My front yard is next to a hillside and the gophers and wild rabbits have completed destroyed my grass.
John and Ken on KFI were talking about this yesterday, the owner was kind enough to phone in and explain the situation. Within 20 minutes of their discussion a city councilman phoned in and said that all charges had been dropped. The councilman also stated that he would make sure that the ordinances would be changed for people who are wanting to do drought tolerant landscaping.
There are a ton of artificial turfs available now. Some of them look very, very real. You have to get on your hands and knees to tell that it's not. But it really is expensive. The really nice stuff will cost you about $9/square foot.
We had several houses in our heighborhood that had artificial turf...no problems thought it looked good etc. The stupid HOA made them remove it because artificial turf is not allowed....But I guess the crappy looking lawns and yards are better to look at??? Or the over watered yards with the water running down the street are o.k. too...I could go on and on The Insanity of it all..."Common Sense" has left the building..
One of our golf courses I work at had artificial grass tee line installed and it looks quite real, even with all the traffic from golfers. Here is some reading for you: info and threads: http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/181118-our-new-backyard-putting-green/ http://www.complete-putting-greens.com/Install-a-putting-green.html http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/295527-building-a-backyard-putting-green/ manufacturers: http://www.synlawn.com http://www.artificialturfsupply.com/ http://www.syntheticgrassusa.com/ http://www.easyturf.com/ http://www.progreen.com/ Your best bet would be to find out which local landscape companies install artificial turf and see which companies turf they use and get a list of customers they have installed for in your area so you can drive by and see how good it looks. We had Synlawn installed at the course, but I've seen great results with Progreen and Easyturf also.
Yep - I have 3 neighbors with it - all in various ages. I thought it would start to look bad and faded through the years...not so far, one yard is over 3 yrs, still green. Was thinking of doing the same to my potage stamp grass patch. - Did anyone else notice how much water they saved!! "Meanwhile, the couple said they had reduced their water usage from 299,221 gallons in 2007 to 58,348 gallons in 2009."
