My wife commutes home from work at least 3 days a week. From Costa Mesa to the Ranch...Ladera Ranch.

Route A has her home in 2hrs and is 30 miles.
Route B has her home in 2.5 hrs and is 38 miles I think.
Route C has her home in 3.5 and is 45 miles +.

The commute works out one of two ways:
    1. She leaves her bike at work on the day prior to her commute, then carpools in and rides home.
    2. She drives to work w/ bike. I then ride to her work using Route A, B, or C and then drive her car home. She rides home.

She rides a little fixer upper that she's had almost a year and a half now. (and put over 8k miles on!)

    Gawd, I LOVE that bike!!!

One of these days I'm going to get a Ti bike. Merlins are my favorite, but Sevens are very close, in fact after staring at that picture the last 5 minutes I now have a new favorite.

    No wonder Madre's so fast!

Those are pretty good times, especially after a day at work. That's a super tall headtube are you like Shaq tall? Or is that just how the bike is designed?

I'm 6'6. That ain't Shaq tall, but it's taller than any production road bike can accommodate.

    Well,

It was part of my justification for getting it, so I rode to work today. I hope I don't get rained on much riding home tonight. My commute is brutal: 7.9mi. it only took about 35 minutes door to door. [IMG]

fellow seven riders! i knew i liked you for a reason

when i used to live at home I commuted from coto de casa to Irvine 3x a week. the "to work" commute was great- nearly no hills except on RSM parkway just past alicia. downhill for 15 miles was killer.

the home ride? the exact opposite. #-o

edit: little fixer upper??!?!?!?!?!? little guy?!?!?!?!?!?

I'm Still riding Miss Fit To and From work. she a Zion 737EBB with 34-14 gearing. it's 8.5 miles with +165/-656 elevation to work. and the reverse to get home. The ride one way takes 35 minutes to get in and 45 to get home. I do that 5 days a week. So far I've only needed about 10 tubes 2 chains and one front cog.

Well if we're talking about when I very first started commuting (June 06) 30 pounds. After my daughter was born I was weighing in at 226, I am now @ 196 and still dropping. It's been a combo of riding more, drinking more, and eating right.

I knew STR people were great! Now seeing how many of you commute to work routinely I am so stoked. I rode six or seven different mountain bikes to high school, college, work, the trails and everything in between for 13 years until a few car/bike incidents and gangbanger meetings made me start driving to work each day. I think you may have all inspired me to get back on the steed and say no to the gas powered crowd that is SoCal. Would be great if someone could LMK what they think of using a cross bike as a commuter? I have always been attracted to the geometry of those bikes and the ability to ride on/off road without the drag of having to switch tires. Commuters rock!

Specialized Roubaix comp. leave at 0530 in darkness. I feel a little vulnerable at that time. My wife gets nervous. It is 12 miles though in pitch black so i understand why.

Ouch, that is a bit hairy. It's the main reason I don't commute this time of year. I open and need to be at work at 0515 meaning I'd need to leave at nearly 0330 (its about 20 miles to work). During the summer I pull the 9 to 530 gig so it'll be easier to ride in and sunny!

other wise I ride my Felt F1X 'cross bike to work. It's a hilly 23 mile one way ride that can take between 1.15 and 1.35 hrs depending on the bike and my sorry ass legs.

    My new ride

I have been commuting for 6 months now on a 92 Cannondale R800. That bike is fast and fun but just did not have the cool factor I was looking for. So I treated myself to an 07 Redline Monocog frame (in brown of course; matches my uniform that I commute in:lol:), and then had Adrenaline (thanks Neil and Jessie) build it up for me. I kept the build on the cheap side since it sits in a bike rack for 10 hours a day. My commute is short (13 miles roundtrip) but a blast on those Schwalbe Big Apples (thanks again SarBoats)!

Flat commute = 44:16 which takes some effort to get those tires rolling but once you do you can blast through everything! I now look for potholes:lol:

To maintain the same commute time as my skinny tire bike I have to work a little harder which makes for a quick, but great workout!

P.S. 29er in case you were wondering

I just brought my old bike from the dead and turned it into a commuter. I switched out the tires with 26X1.25 and added a seat post rack/pannier. I need to add a new seat as well. The bike rides smooth.

I will be commuting from Corona to Villa Park 1 day a week as the rest of the week I work in Commerce. I will be riding the river trail from Green River to Lakeview, to Santa Ana Cyn Rd then to Santiago Canyon Rd. On the way home I will ride to Kraemer and enter the river trail from there to avoid the mindless drivers on a section of Santa Ana Cyn Rd to Lakeview.

    +/- 30 mi. round trip.
