commuters! what's your ride?

What kind of mileage are you doing? It seems like many people live fairly close to work. My commute will be nearly 20 miles one way by the time I cut out the really dangerous sections of road.

 

I've been riding my 20 year old carbon specialized allez epic, but it has no rack mounts and is showing it's age pretty well.

I'll be doing a ride in April from Canada to Mexico on Bionicon's new Urban Road commuter bike. The bike is a cromoly frame with bullhorn bars and bar-end shifters, V-brakes and a 1x9 drive train, but we'll be using a 3x9 set up for touring. The bike has rack and fender mount points so it can be set up for touring or commuting pretty easily.

They're not yet available in the U.S. but will be in the next few months. Our ride down the pacific coast will be the first "test" ride for the bikes for the U.S.

Edit: I should add that the one in the pic is the prototype at Interbike last year... it's not the one I'll be riding (too big for me).

 

I slacked off this winter but I usually ride Mon, Wed and Fri. I ride two routes.

The first is on the road. Santa Margartia Parkway in RSM to El Toro down to Toledo and over Alton Parkway in Irvine. 10 miles each way on a late 80s Dave Scott Ironman. Still rides like new.

The second route is half road and half trail. Arroyo Trabuco in O'neil park to Santa Margarita Parkway. At Glenn Ranch I jump on Serrano Creek trail and take that all the way to work. 10 miles again on a semi retired GT I-drive 2.0.

 

Same route as Steven, Corona to Orange with about 4 different routes to work but they all start and end with the Green River/91 entrance to the bike path.
Usually 3 times a week and about 48 miles round trip on the short route, 54 miles round trip on the "long" route.

Plenty of ups and downs thrown in, about 1:10 to 1:30 for time each way.

A very easy way to get those base miles and I love the night ride home but I am using the TriNewt wireless for maximum brightness because it's still a bit creepy along the 91 from Gypsum to Green River...quite a few animals and people choosing to live outside!

The Roger is one of favorite bikes, a total blast with the disc brakes and knobbies.
When I get to Yorba Linda Park I stay off the pavement and hit the sand dirt path:bang:

I have also gone up Skyline,down Blackstar and then along Santiago Canyon road to Chapman to work but that takes almost 2 hours!

 

c'mon northshore, pink is the new black!!! i personally like pink accents.

 

I'm surprised I never run into you on the river trail. I ride the section from Lakeview to Weir Canyon almost everyday at 7am and 5pm.

I'm usually riding an unpainted Specialized Langster fixie, an orange Lenz Leviathan or a Moots Mooto-X.

My route is from Lampson and Dale down Newland to Edinger to Harbor to Warner to Fairview to work

 

I currently ride a Salsa Casseroll built up with 1x9 gearing for simplicity. I average 3 days a week riding. I was riding a fixed gear, but I was having knee pain, which went away once I started riding geared bikes. I'm trying out Soma moustache bars, and so far I like them. I also switch between a backpack, messenger bag, and rack/panniers. I'm currently in a backpack mood.

My ride is 26 miles round trip from Irvine to Costa Mesa. My route is Harvard to the Peters Canyon bike path all the way to the Back Bay and then right on Santiago/22nd/Victoria in to work.

 

Companies need to support riders more.

 

I work from a home office so I don't technically commute by bike. But this is what I hop on when I do work from coffee shops, ride down to the beach, or join up for various local http://midnightridazz.com/ rides.

I have two rear wheels for this Schwinn Traveler. One is fixed and one is free-wheel. I know going fixed is all the fashion now, but I can't quite get comfortable with it. I think it's because I put in more time and mileage on both my mtn bike and my other (fast geared) road bike so my brain is always thinking "freewheel". It's hard to switch between the two. So I'd just rather not bother. Going freewheel with the single speed seems to work best for me. Maybe when I get bored, I'll throw it back on.

I have a 1.2 mile city commute to my office in Boston.. and I'll soon be riding a Salsa Casseroll Single :bang::

I am usually on the trail around 7:30am and then head back around 6ish after work so I don't get to the bike path at night until 6:45pm..too bad, some company would be nice!

 

Here's my ride. I live in Mission Viejo and ride to JWA. 19 miles each way and mostly bike path along Irvine Regional bike trail.

 

I ride this to school five days a week. 4 miles round trip. Sometimes to work on main st. in HB, that can be a nice ride, it just sucks riding home at one or two in the morning.
