Pain Freak has agreed to be our guide we should try to start picking some dates. For those of you that don't know what we are talking about here are a couple of links. Does a 5,000 ft drop in 8 miles interest you? Ride starts at the 9,200 ft Sherman Pass outside of Kernville, CA.

In Steve's Website, go to MY RIDES on the left. He has some nice videos, mostly Nor-Cal. Check out the Flume Trail in Tahoe that is a must ride .

new thread on the Cannel Plunge this summer....

Hopefully by keeping this thread in this forum, planning will be easier than the Gravity Ride. I just checked out the video and it looks pretty blazin'

I've been wanting to do this ride for a while. Are we talking about camping and riding? I'm in for this either way. I can drive and take 3 others.

This is a must do. I have done it for the last 4 years now and love it more every year. Last year some of the locals kind of helped us out, but that put a bad taste in the campground owners mouth. We will have to work out the shuttle details or we will have to pay 35 bucks a head to use their shuttle service.(Anybody got a trailer?)There are a number of rides to do, but I highly recommend the Plunge and Just Outstanding. This is best as a camping weekend, but they have showers and I've always comfortable there. Last year we had about 20 guys and it was a blast. I called John @ Mountain River Adventures and he has agreed to let us share campsites of up to 6 people with two vehicles per campsite. Last year he charged us for the extra people and that got expensive. Now it's down right cheap. For two nights it's 30 dollars per site split 6 ways is 10 dollars for two nights.

Let's try to settle on some dates soon as a lot of us are making plans for the summer. The pass should be open in late June or early July.

And for the less adventerous there are some motels right down the street.

No problemo. I'll try and get some info on the pass. It looks to be getting pretty warm up there so it may open soon.

I called Mountain River Adventures http://www.mtnriver.com/ yesterday, was told shuttles start first or second weekend in June. Does a Saturday or a Sunday work better.

Too far to drive, ride, then drive back. Camping good idea.

Same here. I'm not sure what the plan would be exactly as when to leave but I'll already be taking a day off work on Saturday for the 24hr race so taking another Saturday off may not be practical for me depending on when we would head out there.

Rob I would be in same situation as you. If the ride is on Sunday, I was thinking of leaving Saturday evening after work.

OK here is a starting point Sunday June 25th.

June 17-18th is Fathers Day weekend, may be a problem for some to get away for a whole weekend.

I would not mind going up early (Friday) and do some local riding Saturday...assuming that it is not 100 degrees, if that is the case I am finding a swimming hole in the Kern.

Last year we went up on a Friday. And some of the other guys came in on Saturday. We can schedule the Plunge one day and Just Outstanding for another or if if somebody wants to do something else in the area like Badger Pass or know of something, speak up.When we do the shuttle I think it leaves at around 8 am so everyone going would have to be there before 7:30. Driving from LA/OC would take 3 to 4 hours depending on where you started.

    Kippster, that's Mammoth.:)

Looks like we would have to do the Plunge on Saturday. Might be able to work it out for two different days to accomodate everyone, but as it stands right now they may already be booked for Sunday.I've already got 5 confirmed. This may turn out huge. Last year we had over 20.

Lower Rock Creek is on the other side of the High Sierras long drive across, Tioga Pass is 10,000 ft.... maybe be awhile before it is open. Last year did not open until 3rd week in July. Lower Rock Creek will be part of our Mammoth trip in August.

We camp in that area often, though usually off 190 on the other side of the divide. Shouldn't be hard to talk the wife into a weekend in the Sierras. Smart, beautiful, and a shuttle driver? Can you say win/win?

See you at the top, fellas!

Hi all, new to the board but not new to Biking, I started my Biking addiction in 87.
If there is still room for one more, I would love to go, this is the one ride I have always wanted to do but never had the time.
If anyone from San Diego needs a ride, I have room for one more.

TCB weclome aboard, you are more than welcome to join us in Kernville.

If you are able, come on some of the local OC rides or invite us down to check it out. Do you ride Flightline?

Funny that you would mention Flightline, I have not rode there in over three years and I was just thinking of riding Flightline this Sunday with Aquaholic,
I am trying to find someone that will show us the new trails, any suggestions.

And to get back on subject, is there a group email I need to be on for the Cannel trip or will this thread be the official form of communication.
