Anyone know if Chino is open since the recent rain? Specifically, is the gate open and the "Trail Closed" sign down? They seem to keep the sign up for a while after the rain...

I suppose that this question would only apply to people who rode Chino last weekend as I believe that they're only open Fri-Sun.

We're planning to ride Saturday and it would be good to know ahead of time if it's open.

    Cheers,
    -Alan

I rode last Sunday and stopped and talked to the ranger. He didn't bring up anything about the park being closed, so neither did I. I'm assuming since we parted ways with a wave and no trespassing ticket I was OK.

Thanks Ducati... it's what I was hoping to hear. Which entrance did you use? Elinvar / Bane Canyon, or Carbon Canyon? If it was Bane Canyon, was the gate open?

It sounds like enforcement has been inconsistant. According to their phone message the park was closed last weekend. The number is 951-940-5600 if you want to call and be sure.

Rode just lower aliso on Sunday from SE entrance (Golf Course route) to Bane Canyon, and the gate at the SE entrance (vehicle gate) was open, no signs. Trail was very good, but we did walk across (streams on the lower part), and around two mud puddles. But the rest was really quite nice. We passed other riders, did not see the ranger. All the big ruts we came across are truck created, looks like most mtbr's walk around.

Good looking out Punk Sanders on posting the number for us to call ahead in advance. I'm planning on heading up Friday morning, good to know I won't be cited for riding that day.

If they're cutting the park hours to save budget money, there damn well better not be.

Yeah, it would make them more money for less cost, theoretically.

It's just that the application of that philosophy in conjunction with a State Park is so fundamentally wrong.

I just called this number and spoke with a live person (surprising, I know!). At any rate, she confirmed that the park is supposed to open tomorrow and over the weekend! Ride on!

If they don't open the park and let us ride the trails, all the trails will be completely overgrown. The fireroads they'll regrade, but we'll probably loose most of the singletrack!-LLoyd

Good to know that the park will be open Friday. I'm planning on riding the ridges in the AM. If anyone is interested, PM. It's been awhile since I last rode Chino, I'm stoked to see how green everything is right now.

I heard there's a giant sinkhole on Northridge. Like big enough that the whole road is gone.

I'll see if I can formulate a ride report for. Granted I don't get consumed by this big hole!
