I was thinking of going up there today around 5:30 or 6:00 with a machete. It is the only tool I can think of that can fit in camelpak. Plus, machetes are just awesome.

If anyone is interested in clearing the north end of Bane Ridge, I'll be out there. Any takers?

I wonder if there is a big gap jump out there now?

If so it is probably filled in with mustard grass by now. That stuff grows quickly.

That's perfect for when I come up short on the gap jump. It'll cushion the landing/fall.

Did anyone get out there last night and finish the trail work? I'll probably head there this evening.

Yep. I hacked away with my machete for about a hour and half. I was suprised, I was able to get a lot done, but more work is needed. Unfortunately, I can't meet you out there today. Good Luck!

I grew up riding those trails and used to be on the MTB Assistance Unit there (MBAU). Still have a jersey collecting dust in my closet.

The problem is high Ranger turnover: one gets the volunteer programs going strong and then transfers to another park; things get dropped in the shuffle.

We used to have the "Wilderness Experience Day" that included raffle rides for MTB and Equestrians as well as raffle hikes, food vendors, demo rides and free schwag. Naturally, it got too MTB-Centric and went the way of the Dodo. Kind of a drag, really.

Thanks for all the hard work you guys (gals too?) are doing out there. If I lived closer, I'd be in for some sweat equity. East Fence Line used to be a SWEET trail...could be again.

Zippy, it looks like they are going to resurrect the Wilderness Experience Days at the end of May 2009 (week after memorial day). The ranger was talking about doing an MTB event. We'll see what comes of it.

Fenceline is still a sweet trail but needs to be cleared and MAINTAINED. That's the worst part about the park, if we don't make an effort keep it up, no one will.

I'd be down to come help fix East Fenceline. By that I mean transform it into the sweet single track it SHOULD be.

Have bike trailer and tool experience...will haul heavy stuff. Fall-ish?

Sam and I did a solid attempt at pushing over a ton of 8 foot weeds to make it rideable last week. The idea was to break/bend them over at the ground, and out of the way.

    Im in :)
    Have beer... will travel

i was in on the original trail maintenance day and I joked about my "Crop circle" stick but seriously I think that is what is needed.
A 4' long 2x4 or 2x6 with a loop of half inch rope thru a hole in each end.

The mustard is so brittle you could do some serious stompin' with a tool like that. Just do the downwind side of the trail....
