No improvements other than a patio cover and the house isn't worth $5mil--I'd rather spend that money on bikes ;)

They reassessed it at an increased value after the $7000 patio cover and new concrete patio was poured (replacing the old one).

Gene, I appreciate all the work it takes to be a moderator but even I think this is a bit of overkill. This ain't Fight Club after all.

We ban ride reports on poached trails, don't give maps describing poached trails, and I NEVER ride a poached trail... but to ban discussing what we MIGHT do IF a particular State Park were closed is a little draconian by my standards.

I fail to see any mention of this new restriction anywhere in the rules:

    1. Be respectful.
    2. Your posts should be constructive. Any member posting for the sole purpose of increasing their post count will have the posts deleted.
    3. Corrections to other’s information should not be condescending in nature. This is a forum for the exchange of ideas and information. You are expected to remain civil and express your thoughts in a mature manner.
    4. Threads are expected to be kept on the original topic. If you want to discuss another subject, feel free to create a new thread in the proper forum.
    5. Posting pornography (ANYTHING over PG13) is prohibited.
    6. You must have a post count above 25 to post a for sale ad.
    7. Anything deemed to be SPAM or SPAM in nature by the admin or moderators will be deleted. Any account used for the sole purpose of advertising a product, company, or service will be deleted.
    8. Any posts or threads about riding known illegal trails will be deleted.
    9. The socaltrailriders.org administrator and moderators reserves the right to edit or delete any post/thread we deem necessary.
    10. Enjoy the ride

My definition of poaching, riding in a area knowingly causing damage such as running over plants to create a new trail, going wide on a trail through the bushes to hit a tiny drop etc. If theres a trail there, that damage is already done, its not poaching anymore its riding a trail.

Sucks that chino is on the chopping block especially since it never really seems like it is staffed anyways. Shut the gate, enter at your own risk sign and be done with it.

FYI, I deleted a couple post that already said they would. I'm just saying don't post again that you are willing to break any rules, because I will delete it so it doesn't show the powers to be that we a defiant bunch. Tell me this, what do you think of the motos and 4X4 who ride and drive up the Luge when it clear that "NO" motorized vehicles allowed are clearly understood and posted. Besides if you read #9, I think I''m covered. ;)

Do you realize that pupil spending includes how much schools spends on teacher salary? My wife is an elementary school teacher and she spends a large percentage of her own salary on buying books, supplies, teaching medias and props. Even then the salary doesn't account for the extra hours she spends before/after school hours preparing for the next day or weeks.

She spends weekends researching, shopping, or preparing for lessons the following week.

Don't demean the value of the teacher, just because statistics on salary shows that they might rank high amongst other states.

Cali is also one of the highest cost of living state in us. Salaries own match cost of livings. Her salary in North Dakota would afford her a wealthy lifestyle, but her salary squeaks us by.

School fundings provide the bare minimum of what the law requires. And to cut more spending and increase class sizes, so that they can cut teacher jobs? That's simply is just cheating our kids out of a better education.

In a situation like this, how long do the people allow the state to continue to run us in the ground. Day by day they enforce more regulations, ad and increase fines, all at the expense of hard working people. The states lack of ability to take care of finances has passed under the radar long enough. Look; the state has no problem asking us to pay on time or suffer the consequences. When do we make it point ( as tax payers) to make the state pay the consequences for their actions? There comes a point where the majority has to over rule the minority. The complete lack of credibility of state officials needs to be addressed by other means. Its obvious continuously discussing the same things gets no action. This is not a call to arms, or advocating criminal acts, but just how I see it . Remember that song they teach you as a kid? " This land is our land, this land is your land " ??????????????? Seems that's not the case after all.
The state is essentially saying that if we cant take care of the park, neither can you. We the state have no way to collect fines or enforce regulations if we allow the people to run publicly funded parks and maintained land. Something is wrong here!!!!!!! The state can still regulate the park and make sure rules are followed. But at least allow community members to take care of OUR parks before closing the books.

    Ah yes gool ol' #9.#-o
As for the motos and such, you probably gather that from my first poach (er I mean post).
On the subject of defiance... defiance is not necessarily a bad thing, especially given the history of our particular country.

What does tweak me is folks claiming that their "taxes" pay for this or that and then when it comes to a pet "thing" like our State Parks they bitch and complain.

Let me ask this: How many of you own parking stickers for the following:

    1) County Parks
    2) State Parks/Beaches
    3) Federal Wilderness

IMHO, if you are a "user" then perhaps you should be contributing more to the fund? Also, it makes absolutely no sense to close a park and keep the rangers... Especially since it appears that there is little that is actually done as far as enforcing the existing rules in most places.

I think we as a group should tally up out State Parking Sticker dollars, note this and send a group letter to the State. Not that is will do any good since we are fighting with every Union and Special Interest Group in the State but it might make us feel better...

Wonder why many cites, counties and states run out of money? Found this from 2007 for city workers in San Francisco. 1/4 million a year for police officers even if they are in management this is out of control and this was two years age, sure they make more now. Then 80% of their wages at retirement?

I am mad as hell so I need to ride my bike...off to the Sierras until Tuesday hope you all enjoy your weekends. Not really mad but good excuse to take a road trip.

Thank you teachers. I can read and write. My post was in response to the bs that California ranks near the bottom in spending per pupil.

High costs affect everyone including taxpayers. We in the private sector don't get retirement plans. Those of us who've had jobs as "exempt" status know it means unpaid overtime. We don't get raises just because we earn an advanced degree, we have to produce.

You shut down Torrey, C-Bad and Strand and people are going to drown. Period.

Please sign the petition to keep the parks open so my coworkers and I can help people enjoy our State beaches and still go home to their families.

+1 - I can read and write (kinda good at grammer too) thanks to teachers AND caring and involved parents!

I too worked a job as an exempt role, it was crazy 24-7, when half of the office was 9-5, that's just the way marketing is, so I chose to work for myself - the hours are just as bad - but on slow days, I'm on the trail :)

But pensions.... Being self employed and running a couple of small companies, my pension, retirement, etc., is what I save each month, and I don't have a 'matching' program to complain about them taking it away. If I want a bigger pension - it's simple...I have to SAVE more.

What ever happened to the america where people came here and made their OWN way, by preparing for their OWN future and instilled this discipline and opportunity in their children?

Anyone wanna go 'ride CHSP' this week? Maybe we could start an 'awareness tour' that hits all the OC and LA trails in a weekly succession that shows our support for them all. Partner with SHARE, and other groups, get the press involved - show them how many DO use these trails.

And this way we have the memory of them if they do close.

What exactly would they close? I have never seen any paid state employee do anything to this park except make the trails into quicksand and let the weeds grow to the sky

    Budget analysis

    http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_11649004

Interesting read. Spending is out of control. $104 billion dollar budget, with declining revenues. What would happen if everyone ran their own personal finances like the government did. Oh wait, many of them do!

According to my math, that means they have to tax every man woman and child in California around $3500 per head. Or if you figure an average salary of around $50,000 per year this would pay for over 2 million people.
I think they need to start sub contracting out more work.

For the first time, entering Chino Hills State Park at the ELinvar Entrance there was a attendant at the Booth, in addition, there was a group of workers at 4-corners. There seem to be a lot of activity lately at the park.

    Few Ideas

    1. Advertising endorsements.
    2. Sponsor Trails maintenances by private companies.
    3. Volunteer patrol by the community.
    4. Building a Mountain bike Park.
    5. Log cabin development for campers for rental units.
    6. 5K run yearly to help raise money.

Memorial Day to Labor Day is considered peak season. With few exceptions, kiosk workers and maintenance staff are "seasonal employees" and only work during that period. That's state wide.

    wuddya gonna do?

thanks for trying to educate the masses, but tough times always lead to mob-pitchfork mentality: "the sky is falling", "i'm a victim", "it's their fault", "it's not like it used to be back in (pick a decade)", "she's a witch!", etc., ad nauseum.

(this next part might be the great vacation sex talking)

the sun will rise tomorrow and there will be trails to ride. and the day after that, and so on. life is short, but sweet. stay thirsty my friends.

    State Park Closures...wtf!!!

I didnt see a post for this so i thought there outa be one...heres a link to a map and list of the 220 state parks that may be terminated by arnold n company:mad:.

    http://www.calparks.org/takeaction/closurelist.html

WTF...that would only leave 59 parks open#-o...and by open...does anyone know what that means? Are they just going to lock the gates and stop maintenance and facitlities...but can we still have access? or are they gonna police access?

We are getting hit hard here in ventura county...santa monica mountains. I dont know who you guys in the OC know...but you seem unaffected by the closures...but i bet if all the other parks lose access...we all will pay with congestion and overuse...trails will be destroyed and hiker/biker/equestian relationships will be even more of an issue...i could on and on...but I chose to ride point mugu...maybe for the last time.

Please check the link out and take action...even if your favorite stomping ground isnt affected directly:protest:....

    Cheers!!!

OF COURSE! Uncle Arnie would LOVE to cut down on funding for State parks, but I havent heard him say anything about cutting back on government perks!
