    RR: Chantry w/Anne and the boys...

    On Wednesday, a few of us took Anne to Chantry!
    For those who have never been, it is one of thee most beautiful trails in SoCal. High in the mountains, tree lined, plenty of twists, dozens of turns, water crossings...
    You name it, this trails has it!

    Chantry is also famous for its ultra-narrow trails, tree branches that grab your legs, slippery rocks, protruding boulders, HUGE amounts of exposure (i.e. steep drops), poison oak AND a 30 minute (lung busting) hike-a-bike/ride-a-bike section! #-o

    I always get a bit nervous taking friends to this beautiful (yet dangerous) trail. I get DOUBLY nervous when I take a person I have never met before! 8-[

    Thankfully, I had nothing to worry about!
    This woman (from Vancouver) is supremely talented.
    Climbs, narrow trails, slippery rocks and switchbacks didn't phase her one bit! :clap:

    *She's cool...
    *She is from Vancouver...
    *She rides a Knolly...
    *She is a better rider than most of the people reading this thread...
    *She calls the North Shore home (birthplace of freeriding)
    *She is a freerider NOT a xc racer

    A DB "Ride Report" would not be complete without a:

    Memorable moments... Next!

    Hello Mr. Canadian wanna be, I'm not in the first group shot! What the hell is going on, Dino!?!? :?: Please fix, morph, blend, crop but just fix it. You also left out that big tall goofy guy everyone loves. Can't remember his name.

    I'm not reading anymore and are flagging this thread as inappropriate. ;)

    It was great riding with everybody today. I was running late so I climbed up the Gab past sturtevant to meet the group on the descent from ZION. It was a great day to sneak out of the office. Sorry I had to bail on the post ride drinks at BJ's, work was calling.

    Lets do it again soon.

    As Dino said, great day out today with some cool peeps.
    Dino, Dell, Nick, Chris, Dave, Anne, Todd, Tom, Martin and I was the gang. Looked like everyone was having fun so I assume they were and did. Great mild weather and superb trail conditions. I hope the Zion Virgins enjoyed their new journey. Had fun, thanks boys and girl. :beer:

    Dino likes to talk. We realized later it was all a ploy to get the jersey prize. I must admit, he put forth a heck of an effort...

    Have a safe trip home Anne! It was a pleasure meeting you and riding with you last weekend - you're an amazing rider and a kick-ass woman! Looks like you're going home with a lot of great memories.

    This was kinda my virgin STR ride so to speak, and it did not disappoint. I had a blast out there with a great group of people. Dino, Dell, Nick, Chris, Dave & Anne, it was a pleasure meeting and riding with you guys. Martin, Joe and Todd, it was great to see you guys as well.
    Dino & Joe, thanks for the photos. Good times with STR! :)
    I look forward to seeing all of you out on the trails again real soon. Perhaps some of you would like to ride the Merrill's & Sunset Ridge with OTB this Saturday at 8AM? I need to start riding more and get back into shape.

    Hey Everyone, I had a great time riding with all of you and thanks so much for the kind American welcome! We share the longest peaceful border in the world, yay! If anyone wants Canadian mtb. destination advice, let me know. Honorary Canuck, Dino can provide some feedback on riding in Whistler! but there is more to BC riding, than just Whistler. Check out gutsploder.com, NSMBA...

    Until next year, thanks again!! Photo of the Knolly to follow.

    Anne, I'll be back up in Bellingham in Oct. It probably won't be too hard to talk my buddy into hitting Mt Fromme again for a day. We could always use a local tour guide. Shoot me a e-mail and we'll keep in touch. :wave:

    It was great riding with you on Saturday!

    Memories...

    * Perfect conditions (overcast, soil was tacky, no poison oak, water crossings were... crossable)

    * I had not ridden with half of the people who attended Wednesday's ride. Literally 10 seconds into the ride, it felt as though I was riding with life-long friends! :clap:

    * Not many people are as passionate about the San Gabriel's as I am! On Wednesday, I met a few people who spend more time "up there" than I do! :clap:

    * Anne: She's cool... She is classy... She is educated... She calls the "North Shore" home... She also drinks beer! The perfect woman! Haha!

    * During the early stages of the ride, I decided it was in Anne's best interest if I followed close behind. If trouble was around the next corner, I wanted her to know! After following her for 15 minutes, it felt as though (I) was the one who received the education. Smooth + Controlled = North Shore riders. Anne was no different! :clap:

    * MY Canada jersey... #-o
    I haven't had a chance to wear it... I wanted to wear it...
    Get over it Joe! Haha!

    * Lunch at BJ's Pizza
    Lots of laughs.. Lots of fun... Lots of beer

    * Anne's jersey giveaway...
    We all wanted the jersey. I did everything I could to win.
    Mid-way into the groveling, I remembered that I had a dozen pics (from my Canadian Adventure) saved on my digital camera. I proceeded to show them to Anne.. Landmarks... Street names... Pictures of places she had never been! I thought I had it! Dell ended up with the jersey. Anne claims he won fair and square. I argue that Dell's "I love my wife, I love my kid, I am very lucky" speech won him the jersey!
    One of the dirtiest trick of all time! :mad:

    NOT SO HAPPY MEMORY...
    A few hours into the ride, my leg started hurting. I had no choice but to stop. After pulling-back the elastic leg band, I noticed a TICK was feasting on my inner thigh! :( How did it get under the elastic band? How am I going to remove it? Did I rip-off its head? #-o

    Anne: Thanks for bringing us together! :wave:

    Oh damn, what a great time! Did it ever feel like the weekend. I would ride with this crew anytime (save for Joe, which would have to be in moderation ;)). Thanks again everyone!

    Anne - great riding with you again! Maybe we'll have similar trail fun in your 'hood one day. :)

    Playing hookey has its toll...my boss said he never heard from me; called the CHP wondering if they knew anything. Around the time that we were laughing it up at BJs, they sent a squad car to my place and poked around. :?:
