Just go fast! The more speed the easier it is.

Great turnout for the Grand Re-opening of Car Wreck. Glad to see so many out there today. The trail is really fun and will demand some respect for sure. I was running late so I decided to ride my Tribal Element instead of the Slayer(6") since I needed to hurry up Mathis if I were to make the ribbon cutting ceremony. #-o

When I got to the top of Mathis, I was relieved to see that they hadn't started yet.

    Everyone was eagerly waiting
    IMG_7781.jpg

Once Ed arrived, he said a little speech thanking all the volunteers, members of the County Board of supervisors and trail users.
    IMG_7783.jpg

Ed also mentioned Doug who is the head grounds keeper there at Aliso. Doug spent countless hrs working the bottom section near the creek and also does a great job maintaining the trails in the park. So if you see him out there, be sure and thank him for all the work he does.

    IMG_7784.jpg

Paul and I spoke on behalf of SHARE and TAV's mentioned the good working relationship the SHARE and the volunteers have with the park. Paul thanked the volunteers, park employees and Ed and Doug for the work they've done.

    IMG_7788.jpg

Once the speeches were out of the way, the 3 of us cut the ribbon. I was honered to be asked to it in place of Jeff B who is the SHARE rep at Aliso and also a huge part is this project.

    IMG_7792.jpg

A new sign was also unveiled

    IMG_7793.jpg

STR's Garrett in the full face ready to rocknroll. Chopper and wife Jane to his right in SHARE jersys. Garrett was the 1st down it(legally anyway)
    :bang:

Once I got to the bottom, I hiked back up a ways to take some pics. Lots of riders coming down today.
    IMG_7797.jpg

Paul came down Car Wreck on his full rigid SS
    IMG_7798.jpg

Didn't even need to lower the seat.

    Richie rich rolls it...,
    IMG_7800.jpg

    ....then onto the rock garden.

    IMG_7802.jpg

There were some hikers coming down as well

    More riders coming down.

I'd say given the amount of traffic it got today, what was loose and sandy probably got looser, we plan on going back after we get some rain to work the tread and berm some of the turns and put in some drainage once we see where the problems are. Thanks again for coming out and enjoy. Hopefully we can get another trail opened soon.

It near the top of Mathis, about 100 yards down just look for the sign on you right if you're coming from the top. The trail comes out on Oak Grove which is the trail at the bottom of Mathis.

Here's the route I saw on Geoladders: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=38922

Not the route I did as I went back up Cholla and did a 2nd run where I ran into Maxwell, Tani and the Path Sunday ride.
Here's the route I did, you can see where it starts in relation to Cholla and West Ridge.

    Hey Trek,

Were you wearing a green jersey? I was following someone who went over the bars to the left about mid way. I slowed, gave the ol' "you ok?", person said yes, I kept going. I wish I would have had video... That person would get a chuckle from the yard sale and knowing they had the first crash... ;) Glad whoever it was, was ok...

great stuff, that is cool that you got to be part of the ribbon cutting gene!

some riders seem to be in over there head in this pic. hopefully the technical sections on this trail wont suffer the same fate as the rock garden on Rock-It.

In Gene's photos, it is interesting to see the different lines people are taking at the spot where the hikers are running down.

Thanks for the report to all of you.
I enjoyed helping out with the trail work, and am looking forward to checking out the trail.
Ironically I was spending the weekend moving, out of Laguna Beach.:-k

Rode it 8/16. U can rip the top pretty fast. garden section I advise to try and stay high. Thought I blew my front tire mid garden. Apperently was a knob snapping of the rock. I decided to stop mid garden. didn't want to get squishy in there on first ride. Overall very fun. Good to see a trail that finally challenges my nomad. Only thing I didn't like was the car and tree at end. Seems needless to keep them. I watched the videos and it seemed wider (wide angle lenses?). I actually clipped my bar on the car and threw off my line to get around the tree.

Thanks for opening that trail. I have a bit more job security now!

Come on now, it's mountain biking. Narrow trails, with natural and man made obsticles are what it's all about.
Been riding this trail for over 10 years, and still haven't hit the car, or the tree (I did hit a tree in Oregon, and they don't budge!). Although I probably will now that I just mentioned that.
See you in the X-Ray room!:lol::lol:

I do agree that mtbing is riding whatever is in front of you. Knew id catch flak for that. Not my fav trail but good for tech training. I like more high speed stuff like mathis and drops. Noobs beware cause its gnarly. Btw this is next to the toughest trail ive riden. Willamette pass down hill race in oregon was the hardest. I too hit a tree at speed and flew off into the bushes. Sunline bars and stem unphased.

wow how hard is this trail? cant wait to ride it! i consider myself to be an intermidiate beginner ive been to rattle snake ridge at el moro canyon three times and have gone over the bars three times, i can almost clear that downhill rock garden but i was get snagged on one spot or the other but then i get back on the bike and finish it

so rattle snake vs car wreck wich one is more technical?
