CANCELED DUE TO BAD AIR....DAMN ARSONIST!! :protest:

This ride is fun. Be fully prepared for a long day full of climbing and descending. I believe the ride is around 30+ miles. Click here for a recap of the ride Last years RR. Typically the group meets at the IMAX theatre and shuttles to the top from there. Don't be confused though, shuttling this ride doesn't make it easy. Here are the details:

    When: 10/27/07 @ 7AM (At IMAX)
Where: IMAX Theatre (in Cathedral City)
    What: Palm Canyon Epic

After the ride, we usually hit up this Mexi place to eat and drink .

Let's figure this out. Post any questions...

I don't want to discourage anyone from doing a great ride but if you're planning on coming on this ride I'd make sure you're prepared as follows.

    • Be prepared to be on your bike nearly all day. In the winter we're usually running out of daylight by the end of the ride.
    • This is not a newbie ride.
    • As CJ Wally said, while this is a shuttle it's no walk in the park. There are some steep climbs and many high exertion ups and downs.
    • Be prepared to hike your bike though a sandy wash for over a mile (or take the cut-off and climb that nasty b1tch Dunn Road) pick your poison.
    • I wouldn't think of doing this ride without some sort of flat prevention system. Slime tubes, Stans, tire liners, etc. I run Stan's and picked close to 20 cactus spines out of my tire after my last ride there. Failure to heed this advice slows the entire group while you constantly fix flats and will force you to buy everyones beer.
Enough with the disclaimer. If you're a strong intermediate rider that's not afraid of some exposure and loose descents you'll love this ride. It's one of my favorites.

This was one of my favorite rides I went on this year! Sucks it's on the same weekend I have to visit family in Arizona, otherwise I'd definitely be going.

Sounds like a good time. Craig, how does this compare to Noble?

Joined the group for their last PC Epic. To date, my longest ride both in miles and saddle-time. Very, very fun ride. I'm going to do my best to gear-up for this one.

Look forward to carpooling out of Corona.

I would like to do this ride someday but I don't have the conditioning. I might want to setup a booth on the trail selling tubes. Every RR I have read over the years has been about how many flats people get. You might want to bring some extra tubes for those that might be unprepared and slow the group.

Have fun and post some pics and a RR when you get back.

There isn't nearly as much climbing or technical as Noble. HOWEVER, there are ALOT of tight twisty turns thru unforgiving terrain that will flat you tires or your skin. Lots of steep up-n-downs with awesome descents that are high on the pucker scale only because of the price of failure.

Project-Dan, you will love this ride!

How about it Dan, are you up for this ride???... really not as hard as Noble, as Ben says, but just as fun. Just bring along a bottle or two of wine and you won't feel a thing....

There are no gates to flip over either!

Did you get that bike at The Path??? You didn't get my RFX hanging on the wall did ya??? 8-[

I would say that this trail is not necessarily more technical than Noble, but because the whole ride takes place in BFE, there is no option for bailout really. You gotta be prepared in other words. Take heed of the other Craig's (CalEpic) advice and you shall be fine. :bang:

Haha, no new bike. I am still debating if I should just upgrade my frame and use the current components or get a new bike altogether. I was doing some homework this weekend on the Giant Reign X1, looks like a great bike for the price and I think I could get the weight down into the 33/34 lb range really easily.

As for the ride looks like I should go buy some slime tubes.:bang:

To be honest... I think Noble is a WAY easier day than this ride :) No, really... Maybe Ann can chime in also, but when we did this "shuttle" ride, it was a really tough day.

I think it's pretty tough because the first half of the ride is pretty much steep down, into a wash that sucks up all of your speed, then back up a STEEP climb. Then down, then up a steep a climb, where your speed has been scrubbed in a wash.

From what I remember, the majority of the descent was all in the last few miles, which is a rocky somewhat technical descent.

I know a lot of the guys really enjoy this ride, but it's not my cup of tea. That's not to say we for sure won't be there, but it wouldn't be my first choice :D

Just wanted everyone to know what they were getting into.

The pace can be moderate; no one is out there to race. Just that the steep ups really take a lot of energy. There's a good amount of hiking (for me there was).

Definitely use Stan's or slime tubes and bring enough extra's!!
