Thought this was cool enough to share/ x-post from PB: http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Steve-Smith-devinci-prototype-world-champs.html

Proto Al 27.5 frame, DW designed/tuned just for Steve Smith, his specific chainring, and the Pietermaritzburg pedal heavy track, 165/175mm travel, Vivid Air shock, Boxxer w/ 27.5 lowers, Havoc DH wheels, and maybe a Reverb dropper post. Est low 30lbs.

Someone has some money to throw around to try to get this win...

BTW, the article talks about the bike being a "one-off", but in the second pic (the one with Dave Weagle in it), the bike has Nick Beer's name on it, so at least 2 off. Maybe on sale next year? :-k

    Low 30s weight? Seriously?

Looks like Dave Weagle used the seatstay-swing design that he used on the Salsa Spearfish design, with his usual high trail bike main pivot location, but otherwise used beefy rectangular tubing and aimed to mimic the Wilson's geo adjusted for 27.5 wheels in there.

He may have some awesome support, some wins to prove that he's been training well and is capable enough, and has that calculative and strategic side to him that can choose the smarter options to give him an edge in efficiency and what not, but I'm rooting for Grubby, Sik Mik, Blenki, and Gwinny, though I expect to see Gee and Minnaar taking up two spots on the podium. As much as I like watching Sam Hill, Danny Hart, Loic Bruni, and others with unique styles ride, I think the guys with powerful legs and lungs and a more aggro high speed style will pull out ahead. Sik Mik is a force to be reckoned with! Emmeline for the win in the women's race.

Edit: On second thought, I will root for Stevie after all. And Mitch Ropelato. I want to see more capable trail bikes breaking into the DH world cups to shake up the status quo.

Just the timed practice, but Stevie fastest on his 275 proto, Mitch 2nd on a 29er spec enduro, Gee 3rd on an "old school" DH bike. Interesting stuff indeed..

Varaxis - keep rooting for Grubby - he'll be on his SB-66 trailbike! That would be uh-ma-zing :bang:

Graves has rainbow stripes for a 4x win, let's add one here! I'm scared that one of the 29er pilots might win. (shudder...)
