    Sycamore Canyon State Park/Pt. Mugu

I thought it would be really fun to do an overnight camping trip to Sycamore canyon in Ventura.
This is a great park and has quite a bit to offer

    It's right on the Ocean
It's extremely kid and family friendly
It has a huge variety of very fun trails
It has easy single track for the kids
It has harder and more technical trails for the big kids
    It has hiking
    It has showers
It has a trail system that allows you to do 5 miles or 30
It has incredible road riding off PCH
    It has surf fishing

I thought it would be fun to put this together and get the STR gang over to the Santa Monica mountains. You guys will love it!! It'll be fun to get the group together for this and just ride and have some fun!
It's a very popular place so if you want to do this, consider reserving soon!
    I'm in!
    Rain will cancel!

I'm all for it. Been meaning to get back out there for some time.

I use to ride this after work, when I worked out in Port Hueneme and lived out in the Calabasas area. And also on the way back home when I use to do a gruelling commute 90 mile one way to work and 90 mile one way back home. Glendora to Port Hueneme ... fun commute.

To far off to commit yet but I'd really like this. Many years ago we used to do something like this where each area would sponsor a 72 hour event with the groups areas being the host. We did a SM72, a SD72 and a OC72 (Santa Monica,San Diego and Orange County) these were really fun and informal type of camping and rides. Similar to our newbie rides with 2 or 3 different level rides going out. Hell, I still have my OC72 T-shirt.

I'm not trying to steal your thunder just thought I'd put it out there.

This sounds like a lot of fun! But im thinking about making it a weekend trip, 2/28-3/1. Does anybody here have trail maps of this area, especially near the campground?

Great map, just a little dated. Trail #18(Hidden pond) and # 9(Coyote trail) on the map are no longer closed to bikes.

Re; the camping trip, sounds like fun, Thanks for posting it Liz. I should be in for this one, although it's a ways off.

I usually book my reservation through reserveamerica.com. If you look at their map, sites 11-20 would be a good area. STR could end up ruling that whole corner. These are close to the trailhead, there is only one anyway, and some of the sites are fairly large and have a big open space feel. Hope that helps.

Yeah, sites 11-20 are the best ones to reserve. They are huge sites in comparison to the others, and are right next to the trailhead.

Haha! I remember SM72! I miss the days with STP, DustyBottoms, and the gang. What was the guy's name with the hoarse voice who looked like a cross between Sammy Hagar and Nick Nolte? He was a really cool guy.
    Good times. Good times.

Oh yeah, I'm in for the rides. I live close enough I'll probably skip on the camping.

Don't do that, it is just hard to commit that far out. Camping and night riding are way up there on my fun list.
