This is totally going to get in the way of my riding...

While walking down the stairs while carrying my 3 month old daughter I ATE it. X-rays showed just a bad sprain. Is it bad that my wife was more worried about the baby and was fine leaving me I pain on the bottom step. Happy to report baby is fine.

You'll heal. Glad the baby is ok.

Oh, and it'll feel better when it stops hurting. ;) In my experience sprains often hurt more than breaks. Best wishes on a speedy recovery.

And take care of that baby, will ya? Or was this a ploy of getting out of baby duty? I should have thought of that!

So is it broken or just sprained? Busted would lead me to believe broken.

Just sprained....you'll be back on the bike in no time.

Just broken.....will be a bit longer.

TOTALLY sucks man. "Bad sprain" is often worse than a break. I've done both ankles. One was very bad sprain (tore up everything). Took a long time to heal up (as in about 3 months for much of the pain to subside, and 9+ months before I fealt nearly back to normal). Limited riding might come back fairly soon; but, full-blown riding where you may need to throw a foot down could take longer. I guess it all depends on how bad it is, and what tendons/ligaments were efffected. Hope your recovery is speedy.

I agree, sprains can take forever to fully recover from. I had a brace kinda like that one in the link, only it laced up. I used lace-up clip-less shoes/boots and was able to ride sooner.
    Get well!
