When is this thing getting done? Intense will come out a new flexier frame by the time this build is finished.
I underlined the real deal there. Sorry guys, I am a big guy, and I break DB spokes, I dont break straight up 14g spokes.....list all the reasons you want, but actually riding on the wheels has told me otehrzise. For an example...... Single track hoops, xt hubs, built with dt revos.....kept breaking the spokes at the butts, got fed up, built it with 14g not one more broken spoke in the next three years. Yes, I used proper tension, yes I built them right. Bottom line is, quality spokes
Whoever recommended for you to use DT Revo spokes on a mountain bike was on crack. Don't ever listen to that person. Also, building with Revo spokes creates an additional challenge that I'd say 95% of the wheel builders aren't capable of dealing with. Your anecdotal data hardly supports your theory of why straight gauge spokes are stronger.
Im sorry not revos, those were my road wheels, loved those....I had the Dt competition spokes on my single tracks, still popped them at the butts. Its kinda like the guys arguing the difference in str between silver, and black ano spokes.
can't argue with that. +1 on wheel maintenance though. I'm not hard on wheels, but I do mess them up. mostly because I don't really true them that often, check tensions, etc. heck, since I'm lazy and don't wanna redo the tubeless thing, the back wheel on my reign has been running 31 spokes since woodward #-o
Talk to the old tiemrs at my shop about black spokes being stronger, theyll give you the reasons why they are not.....its quite fun going back and forth on the subject
I don't think Shimano has a "matchmaker" and might be hard to fabricate one considering Saint brakes use a one piece clamp. What's cool though is if you're also running Saint shifters is that you can adjust the shifters' position so that it can rest under the brake's master cylinder making for a clean, and tight package.
Not to mention you can adjust the shifters to mount inside or outside the brake mount allowing you to put them where they are most comfortable
yeah, saints have the one-piece clamp, so no matchmaker. but as was said, there's a ton of adjustability if you run a saint drivetrain. Even if you run X9/XO, you should be able to get the shifter where you like it. don't forget there's a 2nd hole to screw the clamp bolt into.
You cant anodize stainless steel, is does like to be black oxided though, and when done opens pores up to allow a mild corosion to happen which actually seals against further corrosion.
Damnit stoop being overly technical..... You knew what I meant. My whole point was, I have heard a convincing arguement that black spokes are stronger, and just as convincing of an arguement they are weaker.
I have saint breaks ordered, will get fork crowns & lowers powder coated tomorrow:bang: Please don't derail my thread, The whole purpose of the thread is to share the building process with a few people that have any interest, to gather more info and ideas... and most importantly to have fun.
Whos derailing, were all talking about different technicalities of your build. Im having a blast......Oh yeah, is it done yet??? How much did you end up getting your Brakes for?
