[-( I refuse to accept the reality of what your doctor is telling you... I have found that they always prepare you for the worst and through hard work(get your a$$ to PT) most people I know are able to overcome their challenges. I have faith that you will be one of these people.:bang::bang: So Kick @$$, take names and get back on the new bike ASAP....
Keith, You'll be scorching up singletrack in no time. Doctors always give the worst case scenario to cover their asses, in medicine it never hurts to under promise and over deliver. Keep us updated. I second this! these guys are great, and work on most professional atheletes (from all over) when they have serious injuries. If you're not hearing what you want to hear, get a second opinion from them.
Ouch! Heal fast-like you ride! Like Burner said, MD's say that to CTA. Working in the medical feild, I see it all the time. Get on the mend, get some quality PT the go ride!!
Thanks for all the great comments guys. A friend who's a PT also told me that they always give you worst case scenario - made me feel alot better Ribs hurt worse than the arm today so I'll take that as a sign the arm is healing well. I wont be able to use the trainer very much as I was told not to get my arm too sweaty but I'll try and get out for some walks and fresh air. Here's some more pics.....
Keith - wish you the best healing vibes and rock solid FULL recovery. Suggest you may want to take Innes and Burner's advise. My Neuro Surgeon went soft on me and told me to never ride again. F-that - I hit Kerlan Jobe and thought process is quite contrary and they are working with me in hopes of full recovery.so far good drs. office is a bit crazed. anyway, feel free to hit me if you need any info on them best of luck
More bad news........I really wanted the frame to be salvageable but doubted it'd make it despite the absence of noticeable cracks. The bottom of the head tube is excessively ovalised Best keep your eyes on the For Sale section for spare parts! RIP baby
Remember to keep a piece for good Mojo, depite the bad Juju. I kept the rear shock off my first bike, and I always get all warm and fuzzy thinking of the time shared. :'(
Yeah it was a long shot with the headset being ripped out. Bizarrely the CK headset is apparently within tolerance! Not sure Spesh will warran this kind of accident damage but I might try it on.
Take it to a dealer and have 'em check it out. You can always probably get a crash replacement discount. I mean, come'on, your gf works at a bike shop! Tell her to hook a brother up!
Geez Keith, your elbow is bigger than your head in that pic--and I remember you having a pretty big head j/k I have to give you a hard time now, cause when you're back on your bike, I'm sure you'll be kicking my arse again. Heal well and fast! It's always nice to show a doc he's wrong
WOW Keith matbe after they see your arm maybe they will throw a bone for you seeing all the pain and suffering you have gone through. It so true doctors only worst case results so 1. they cover their azz 2. Look good when you make a full recovery. If you have a HMO those doctors suck and will be cheap on you, unless they sent you to a specialist and even the specialists are in the HMO's back pocket. If you have a PPO you can go see anybody you want. Your best best is to see a arm specialist through a PPO and they will set you straight with a second thought. Your still young so if I was a betting man (and I am) I will take you getting better (+12 months). Look on the bright side at least its not your right.
WOW! Bummer Keith. I heard you broke your arm but had no idea you banged it up that bad. Hope you heal up fast.
Hey... I just noticed. You got staples on BOTH sides! Show off! JK I'm thinking of doing bleachers up and down to keep my legs in shape, less jarring, jogging hurts my shoulder and I don't want to mess things up. Heal up quick!:bang:
Had some good news and bad news yesterday. The bad news was that they discovered that my elbow joint is fractured and as such I shouldnt have had my arm splinted for 12days - so now its healed slightly I cant straighten my arm out nor bend it past 90degrees The good news is that i dont have to wear a 'Munster' cast but just a shortie and only for 3weeks. This is to allow me to exercise my elbow by bending it as far`as possible every day to try and get the range of motion back. Not exactly great news but I'll take what I can get right now! LOL! The surgeon said: "Thats quite impressive you know. You managed to shatter your entire forearm" 8-[ Some pics from Sarahs cell phone from the ill fated night: Nice bend in my lower arm at the bottom in the first pic!
In the middle photo my expression is a cross between agony and extreme concentration as thye asked me to move my arm. I was looking at a Demo9 at The Path yesterday. I hear they're quite popular! An Enduro is more likely though - we'll see. Pics of my fancy new 'special ops' cast. I wanted a red band round the end to mark the death of the stumpjumper but the ortho tech forgot it.
