Bridge down in Sycamore Canyon, Riverside

    Well, the mountain bike gods giveth and the mountain bike gods taketh away. As you can see in these photos, which I took on a ride Wednesday, one of the bridges on North Arroyo is down for the count.

    It looks like somebody was kind enough to move the bridge to the side and block the path with some dead tree branches. I don't know what exactly happened to the bridge and I hope that no one was hurt while it happened, but I am not at all surprised that it broke. Firstly, due to erosion caused by all the rains we had, one of the bridge's supports was greatly comprised. Secondly, a few weeks ago I noticed that one of slats at the end of the bridge was coming loose. That slat is now resting in the creek bed.

    Here's another picture that shows some damage to one of the bridge's supports. Whatever happened to the bridge caused the support to be completely torn off.

    Fortunately, this doesn't appear to be sabotage. Do any of the local riders know what happened here?
