Cant forget about Turner or Intense. While Turners are made in Oregon, I believe, Intense is made completely in house in Temecula, Ca. Im a big fan of Turner bikes and think his bikes are like no other, the fact that Intense make them completely, even the bolts and hardware in house is pretty cool.

Why would you call the Specializes Ruby "Boutique" nothing says McDonalds to me like specialized .
I am not saying they don't make great bikes cause we all know they do.
    They are just so common.

I would go with a handmade Russ Denny . Russ is quite the craftsman, he builds wonderful bikes . Have him measure and fit you
and then he will build a bike that fits you like a glove. Nothing compares to a frame built just for your body.
I have a hardtail mountain bike he built its awesome.
His road bikes are sweet. He is building bikes in Hemet Ca.
P.M. me if you want his contact info or google Russ Denny Bikes. You will not be disappointed!
Here is the link if you are curious . Enjoy!

Tink I don't know you but love what you did with your bike! That's a decent riding frame so you were probably smart to save the money.
I laid down serious money (more than I should have) on a custom Lynskey and I totally dig the ride but it doesn't look half as cool as your Speshy.

PS: you hurt my snobby Lynskey's feelings when you accused it of frequenting walmarts:(

I also had a Russ Denny Hardtail frame and rode it a few years. It was the best frame I ever had hands down. The funny thing is that is has been on Ebay for a few years because the guy wants $700 for a frame I paid $500 for 8 years ago and he started at $1200. A new mountain frame full custom is $900 new. Here is the link to my old frame.

i never said the specialized ruby was boutique. i said that's what i was going to get when i 'fell into my money'. that was only bc the shop where i won my prize is a specialized concept store. i didn't think i had an option at the time. in fact, i specifically stated that "i don't want a 'production' bike off the rack." reread my original post.

tks for the link, but rd's just don't make me wet.

Ok, sorry if I mislead or was taken out of context. I originally saw the $400 and moved on, a relook at your post about selling current bike I missed.

You misunderstood about my meaning of quality, if you read again, I mention that the far east factories often have way better quality and technology then often what we can get here, only when a lack of control do some companies find the need to move in -house. I also mentioned that China was used as a generalization for far east bikes and yes Taiwan CAN be better, but my overall point is that far east bikes are good and shouldn't be passed on for quality alone.

Now I understand your need for a boutique brand, in fact I have the same needs and wants in my purchases, so if you have the budget go for it. When you get to a certain level, I think it becomes personal preference, but a vast majority (not everyone) put a lot of praise on bikes like Pinarello Dogma, Pegoretti, etc. Good luck and sorry if I struck a nerve, it wasn't meant that way.

Anyways, if you want to go USA, I would suggest Serotta, or go steel since most USA factories aren't really set up to have the same quality and craftsmanship in carbon fiber as the companies oversees, but there are a couple.

OK, My bad. I think you must ride the Denny to get "wet". Sometimes it's not how it looks but how it feels to get you off.
When you do find the frame that gets you "wet" do tell. I am going to buy my wife that one! Muwaaaaaah!
You are a BAAAAAAAAAD dirty girl Tink bell

Intense does not but not sure about Turner. The Intense road bike- the Fenix- was carbon and made overseas.

I realize that you are no longer in the market but my .02cents for "boutique", Inglis/Retrotec. I absolutely love my Retro and its as boutique as it gets!

I must have missed the part about needing a road bike. Intense used to offer a road frame, but it was an Asian build carbon frame.....have you looked at Curtlo?
