Uh...50 is not cold. The first night I camped in Mammoth for the closing weekend, the low was around 30 where I was. That was only chilly. You couldn't ask for nicer than 50.
 I camped at the Noble Canyon trail head last January, 25 degrees. That was cold! I have a sleeping bag rated for 20 below, I'll be snug as a bug. It'll be tight with my Chuba in thier with me though #-o.
I'm not sleeping in a tent; I generally sleep in the back of my long bed truck that has a Snug Top camper shell. It does well from protecting me from the elements, it's reasonably insulated, and the air mattress is very comfortable. Best of all, with the large side windows, I can lay in bed and look up at the stars - all off the hotels I've stayed at in Boulder have lots and lots of roaches (I used to stay there when I raced jet skis at Lake Mead).
Nice! I'll be out there with you, no tent. If I hear any noises in the middle of the night, you'll be the first to hear my girl-ish screams.
Tent Cot You need one of these!! One of our friends uses this at Bootleg when he camps. Tent Cot That's why we started staying at the Hacienda. It's much cleaner than the Nevada Inn!!
I've got a Bivy Sack, not as comfy but it'll get the job done. On another note, would any of you FR/DH types be willing to give me some instruction on drops/jumps in the skill park? I'm drop-challenged.
IF they are small, I can help. The most helpful thing I learned about drops I learned on a 1 foot curb...really. After that, it was like "Ohhhhhh, so that's how you do it!"
Bootleg has a really nice little skills area to practice skinnies, small drops, ladders, and a teeter.
I know; I can hit the teeter, but that wooden drop right before it freaks me out! And that gap right after it. How bout you impart some Whistler learning on me?
Ahh...the curb...my favorite place to learn. A 6" curb is equally useful (and in some cases, better, because you have slightly less time to make body/bike position changes in the air). I still hate skinnies.
You're just supposed to roll that. Mebbe I'm confused on where you are talking about. Um, you do NOT hit the gap after it. Even Justin laughed at that. Behind the restrooms... Mark on a skinny to a drop (sequence shot): Sequence of me on the same drop Justin on the roller before the teeter Me on the skinny, ladder roll, teeter (sequence shot) Ima hit up the DJ's (small ones) on my Demo, even though it isn't built for it... Soaks it all up.
So who all is camping? And who all is rolling in on Friday night? I'm 99.9% going at this point. But I have to come back on Sat. night. So I figured I'd roll out there Friday night and crash out in the parking lot.
Me too! I always fall off! I envy the North Shore guys who can do those tiny ones...up in Squamish, they have a skinny that got progressively narrower until it was RE-BAR!!!! Dan and I will be camping.
