Anyone ran a blindside with a 66 on it? I am going to be getting a blindside in January, but I want to wait till the 2010 boxxers are available for it. I have the 66 that is on the dirtbag now, and I am curious if anyone else has ran the combo, and what they think of it.

    Framekiller has that exact setup.

Currently rocking a zero stack headset too, it's pretty ridiculous. His bike is TOO low at the moment! Haha.

yeah, it might be a little low/steep, but I don't think you won't be able to get some riding in on it.

also, the new boxxers should actually be coming out around january, so you may be able to just get one of them when you get the frame.

Yeah, not getting the boxxer right off the bat, will wait till about march, part of the reason for the wait is also cashflow.

Oh yeah, I wont be running a zero stack headset.

Actually I was just looking at the sites, the Boxxer is 553 Axle to crown
the 66 is 565. So the boxxer will actually be shorter on the front

Don't they have tall crowns and short crowns for the boxxer?

I think that you've got it backwards. the boxxers should be 565mm a2c, and the 66 should be around 555mm (at least the 170mm ones). unless of course they lowered the new ones, which I don't think they could pull off with 8" of travel...

that's only the top crown, to account for longer (tall crown) or shorter (flat crown) head tube lengths

Whoops, I read the Rockshox site wrong, Boxxer is 568mm AtC +5 -1. the 66 is 565 AtC,<180>, so there really wont be any difference at all between the two other than travel itself

I realize I am a few weeks late on this thread, but I didn't see it until now. I've been running a 08 66rc3 on a cane creek zero stack headset for a while now, and, honestly, it feels great. I thought it might feel a little steep, but it really isnt that bad at all. I wouldn't mind it being a little more slack on some of the super super super steep downhill stuff, but that is more personal preference than anything. Otherwise, I think you will enjoy it!

    66 on Gran Mal

    Hola,
I spent many hours doing research and reading grom opinions ect. I originally went with 888's and hated the dive factor. Sold and got some 07 66 rc2x. The only way to go! I needed a bike set up for Mammoth and something to get me there.... Transition is the ONLY way to Go!
    I am 6'0
    225 lbs
    Pedal to all rides
    85/15 DH-FR/XC

Here is my set up hopefully it helps:
    Gran Mal Settings
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Marzochii 66rc2x Settings
    Fork Service 6-9-2008
    1) 30 weight High quality Mx oil (10w is too light)
    2) 60mm down from top with forks fully compresiion.
    3) Fork preload is not to be greater than 1 bar_15 psi

End of Travel (red knob upper left tube) has 24 clicks.
Rebound (black knob upper right tube) has 28 clicks.
Compression (red knob bottom righ tube) has 8 clicks.
    XC Settings Fr/Dh
    Preload: 1 bar 1 bar
Rebound: 14 (fast) Slow down a little
    End of Travel: 12 22
    Compression: 3 8

Why: XC I want plush..... FrDh I need NO bottom outs!
and at the same time it has to be smooth with no diving.

drill speed holes in the shock mount! :)

I read about some weight weenies trying to save weight on the Demo 8 (my bike) sub seat stay linkage. Some are trying to by the magnesium version of the link, and one guy even took the regular link and cut some material out to "lighten" it up. #-o

42 is a good weight for that bike. My SS is 39.7 with a Totem solo air on it.
