I don't do wheels or shifty things.

I don't like to do cables but I can and do.

I don't do suspension stuff because I don't want to have to store all the supplies for it and don't care to learn.

I do pads, cranks, headset installs, brake set up, and chain lube. =) Pedals too.

Other than that stuff, it goes to the Path. Unless it's on one of our Phil Wood equipped BB's...then I can't work on it because I don't have the special tool. Guess who does?

I feel good about dropping it off at the Path.

Then again, I don't like to wash my own car or fix it. It's a time thing. I'd rather ride!

 

I can change a tube...I think...

And I've seen Justin replace tubes in his bike many times, so I'm sure he's very experienced. But you may want to bring your own tire levers.

 

I do everything with the exception of prepping the frame. Those tools are crazy expensive. I've built and maintained all my bikes, including wheels (recently), since I first started riding a few years ago. I'm also the neighborhood bike mechanic.

It's not really that difficult to build or maintain a bike. Knowing how comes in handy for trailside repairs also.

Heh, I tried to shorten brake hoses tonight without proper tools and without new "olives" and "connector inserts".

I'll be going to the LBS tomorrow to get parts and tools. LOL.

 

i don't even throw a leg over my rig without reading a tutorial.

 

Just make sure you clean up any brake fluid that may have sprayed or dripped onto brake rotors, paint, and nearby cars.

 

Having worked on motorcycles for years, I've learned to be exceptionally careful with brake fluid (or mineral oil as it is in this case).

LBS had everything I needed, vise block and new olive/connector inserts, so I'll be tapping and bleeding tonight. Spent some time this morning talking to the tech at the shop, he offered some pointers on where the new XT brakes like to trap bubbles and where to tap on it.
