    October 16/17th is the Bike MS Event riding from Irvine to SD over two days. I've noticed many STR folk have done this in the past. It's a great ride and for a great cause...AND there's free registration for first time riders!! (pm for details). Join a team, make a team, ride solo, but you'll have a great time along the way. It has fantastic support with rest stops/refueling almost every 15/20 miles. Voted Best ride by Competitor Magazine for 4 straight years. Take a look at the website at www.biketofinishms.com. I put it on the calendar. as well at;
    http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=2759&day=2010-10-16&c=2

    Join in the fun and ride for those that can't.

    *side note...Team Crash will be having another beer related fundraiser at Beachwood BBQ in either late September or early October:beer:

    Add your comments/questions here and let's ride (it's only a couple days w/out dirt)

    I know that the OC Rebels have had a team do this before, and they welcome newbies to their ride as well as on their team. At that time, everyone received a jersey for the MS ride, group rides (open for all), training help, etc. I did it with them several years ago; it was a blast!

    ^^ adam, i did this last year for the first time; it's an awesome, inspiring ride. danny and i did it on fat tires--it was pretty easy--but i'm going skinny this year (to get to the beer tent faster).

    and kevin's too modest to say it, but he's one of the stars of the MS world--you'll see his face on a poster on the route.

    After I rode it, I volunteered every year until they messed up my assignment last year, then only wanted EMTs to do medical support and seemed to be full in all other areas. I thought it was great actually because one year they were so short that I drove to 3 different tents, as opposed to just assisting at one for one shift. That year, the EMT students were showing up late/leaving early. It was nice that they got so much more support that they didn't need any more volunteers. :)

    A gal at work is signed up for it and currently training. She's a little skirred after learning it's not 75/75, but 100/50. Not a lot of riding experience, she's shopping for a better bike then an og 10 speed. General fitness level is good though, any tips I can give her?

    Beachwood BBQ is friggin fantastic btw ;)

    She does not HAVE to do the 100/50. That is the challenge route. Most people do the 50/50 (actually 60/40) route. Is she part of a riding club? I'm not expert of centuries, but what I've read is to be able to do 70/80 without problems. The challenge/century ride for this event has the hills starting around miles 70. Here is an old/unofficial route from geoladders;
    http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=9769

    PM me with more questions or have her contact me. It's a great ride and very supportive with rest stops stocked with food/water to help. Tell her thnx from me for doing the event.

    huge props to kevin for putting on a good show--and hopefully raising lots of cash.

    there was excellent food, incredible beer, and good times. and just about everybody won something. waldo came away with the grand prize: a signed hockey stick/tickets combo. and quite possibly the girl (well played).
